Principals Message:
Kia ora Whaanau,
This week I was able to get into classes and have a look at what is going on. It has been really great to see the learning that is happening. In the junior school the junior leaders have been running a sports rotation for Year 1-6. The rotation is 20 mins each day during Period 1. Each of the leaders take a game and the classes all rotate through the activities over the term. At the end of each session they reflect on how they can improve it. It is fantastic to see the tuakana-teina relationships being built through this activity.
Also this week Mrs Evans has finished training up the peer mediators. Peer mediators help our students to solve minor conflicts in the playground. They use restorative chats to help students problem solve and come to an agreement when disagreements arise during games. Fantastic work team, it's great to see so many students showing whanaungatanga and contributing to the good of the school.
The Ministry of Education is currently doing a review of the support they provide for students with high learning and behavior needs. As part of this process they are seeking the views of whaanau, educators, and other agencies that have gone through or work within the process. It is important that they hear the stories of families, so if you have been part of the process to gain support for your child please click on the link and complete the consultation form. https://conversation.education.govt.nz/conversations/highest-needs-review/
The policies which are up for review this term can be accessed by searching for the following policies in School Docs (access via our school website) or simply click on the following link to go straight there:

Policies for review in term 1 are:
1) Visitors
2) Contact in an Emergency
3) School Closure
4) Earthquakes
5) Covid-19 Information and Procedures
6) Covid-19 vaccinations
7) Covid-19 Red
8) Covid-19 Orange
9) Covid-19 Green
Your feedback on these policies is important to ensure they still fit their purpose within the school.
On Monday this week we held our first virtual conferences. Thank you to all the whaanau who made time to meet with the teachers via zoom. If you have not booked, please see your emails for the link. The last night is Tuesday next week. If you can’t make this day, you can contact the teacher directly to arrange another time. If you have any feedback on how this has been run this year, we would like to hear it. Please email Demelza d.zandbergen@onewhero.school.nz with the things you liked and ways we can improve.
Ngaa mihi,

Message from the Board of Trustees:
The OAS BoT would like to thank Sara Bacica-Hutchison for her contribution to our school as our Whanau Rep and wish her well for the future. Sara and her family have relocated out of the area.
We would also like to (re) welcome Matua Rima Taua who has kindly agreed to step back into his previous role as our Whanau Rep. Rima is a strong advocate for our school and students and brings a wealth of wisdom which will be pivotal in supporting our annual plan.
As a side note Matua Rima is also running Te Reo classes every Thursday 7-9pm - please reach out to Rebecca Bills if you are interested.
