Ensemble Choir Auditions 🎵🎶
What is Ensemble?
The Jackson Middle School Ensemble is an auditioned choir consisting of 7th and 8th grade students. The Ensemble is considered to be an ambassador group from Jackson, and regularly performs throughout the Portland region. Ensemble Choir has participated the past 22 years in Worldstrides Heritage Festivals, including nine times in their Festival of Gold in New York City, Washington D.C., and Nashville, and have twice been awarded the “Spirit of Anaheim Award” for their enthusiasm and choral excellence. They continue to grow in recognition throughout the Portland area, with appearances on television, radio, and consistently receive “Superior” ratings at the District Music Festival.
Who? Any 6th or 7th grader- you don’t have to be in choir to audition.
When? April 22, 23, and 25
Time? After school
How do I sign up for an audition? The sign up sheet is on the “Call Board” that is in- between the choir and band rooms.
What do I have to sing? You will sing America, the Beautiful, and Mrs. Murdock will also test your auditory memory by playing a series of notes and you will listen, and then sing them back to her. If you have any questions, or need a copy of the song, please see Mrs. Murdock.

Please limit the reading to 4 minutes. You may choose to read only a portion of your writing.
Daily Schedule
During the day of the Writing Festival, students will participate in one large group session with a professional and accomplished author. The authors are carefully chosen for their ability to work with students and to inspire your writing. In addition to the large group sessions, students will attend two writing workshops with their Day Groups. The workshop presenters are experienced writing teachers or working writers. These workshops are intended to give students a stimulating writing experience.
Students will also have time to share the piece of writing they have brought to the Festival in an “author’s circle” with other members of your Day Group. Under the guidance of trained Day Group Leaders, they will read their writings to other student authors. Each piece will be discussed in a positive, supportive way. These sharing sessions have been among the most popular activities at previous Festivals.

Message from the office
No "Heelies" Please
Parents/Guardians: Wheeled shoes, also known as "Heelies" should not be worn to school. They cause a safety hazard in our hallways. If students are using their Heelies, we will confiscate the wheels and ask that you pick them up. Thanks for your understanding.
The office is busy X2 middle schools! Please, please try to keep late drop-offs, and especially early pick-ups, to a minimum! We understand that appointments made during school hours are unavoidable sometimes, so please be patient and allow for extra time.
Also, if you arrive after 3:30, we ask that you wait outside for the bell. Thanks for your understanding!
