Principal's Message
Dear Hilhi Families,
Our first full week of school was full of community building, establishing routines and dreaming of what we will achieve this year. We look forward to sharing all of these with families this Wednesday at Back to School Night from 6:00-7:30. Families are invited to walk their student's schedule, connect with resources (IB, Tech, College/Career) and learn about ways to get involved on campus. Watch for a detailed schedule and reminder to be shared on Wednesday. And, we'll have Ke Tacos available for purchase!
Congrats to our band, cheerleaders, and football team for amazing performances last Friday night. Our game this Friday is at Hare Field at 7:00pm, although we will be the visiting school as we Glow out (wear neon) Glencoe. Please enter through the visitor gates and sit in the visitor bleachers for this game.
We want to remind students and families about protocols for high school sporting events:
Elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by an adult (18+).
High school students:
Must show their school-issued ID or StudentVUE class schedule to enter.
Can only attend contests in which their school is competing (HOA and Oak Street Campus students can attend athletic events for their home high school).
Admission will be charged for all spectators, except high school students with an ASB card.
The fields surrounding the stadiums are off limits. There is an expectation that you are in the stands watching the game, unless you are walking to the concession stand or restroom.
Positive and respectful cheering when your team does well, and treatment of players, coaches, officials, and the other team’s fans is expected at all times.
Not allowed: Backpacks, outside food/drink, bikes, skateboards, scooters, posters larger than 8.5x11 inches, booing, negative chants, name calling, homophobic or racist remarks.
Thank you for helping us ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone at our high school sporting events. Go Sparts!
Sincerely,
Cary Meier
Principal
Reporting an Absence through ParentVue
Parents can now report full day absences via ParentVue. We are working on ways to enter partial day absences, but that is not yet available. With full day absence reporting, you can easily let us know when your child is absent for a full day.

Online Verification & Fee Waiver - Due September 30th
Each year families are asked to verify student enrollment online through the ParentVue app. This ensures we have accurate contact information for your student and gives families the opportunity to complete the family income survey to request fee waivers. We'll have staff available at Spartan Days to troubleshoot ParentVue access.
The fee waiver request is new this year, as we are no longer able to automatically waive fees for all students. We ask that all families complete the form, especially if your child will be participating in athletics, activities or taking IB tests, as this is the only way to waive those fees.
The Little Spartan Preschool still has a few spaces available for this coming year. The program is a part time program (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:45am -12:00pm) for children 3-5 years old. Please reach out to Amanda Shipley for more information if you would like to enroll or know someone who would be interested.
Grade 11
Opt-in PSAT Registration due September 26, 2024
On Tuesday October 15th, Hilhi will be offering an opportunity for our 11th Grade students to opt-in and take the PSAT/NMSQT tests. The PSAT/NMSQT is a qualifying test for National Merit Scholarships for students in their junior year of high school. College Board requires tests to be ordered ahead of time. Please complete this Google form (LINK) if your student is interested in taking this test so we can order accurate numbers. This registration form must be submitted by September 26, 2024.
Grade 9
HHS 9th Grade Level Team meets weekly to focus primarily on attendance and students’ individual barriers to improve their attendance to school and their classes. We follow the guidelines and research from the Chicago University to support our students to stay On Track for their High School Graduation from the beginning in grade 9. Here is an interesting article on this topic: Why does attendance matter in High School?
If your student will be absent due to illness, a medical appointment, or any other reason, please call Mrs. Nuria Pence our attendance secretary or leave a message in our attendance line 503.844.1990.
Our 9th Grade Level Team is here to serve you and your students. If you have any questions or need support, please feel free to reach out to us!

NEW COLLEGE AND CAREER PLANNING TOOL - Xello
The Hillsboro School District has a new tool to help students learn about various post graduation options. Xello is replacing Naviance as the platform students will use to create an education plan to help them meet their individual goals. Xello also provides families with more information and tools to support their students to meet these goals. Please click on the letter below to find out more about Xello.
Please update or change your email address in ParentVue in order to receive an invitation to create their Xello family account.
