Message from the Superintendent: October 28, 2024
Dear PYLUSD Community,
What a joy it was to see so many of our students, teachers, administrators, and community members come together to support our remarkable schools at the Heritage Parade! Watching our ten high school and middle school marching bands and color guards parade down Kraemer Boulevard, accompanied by the cheers for our George Key/Venture Academy students and their families, I was once again reminded of the power of this community’s spirit. When PYLUSD shows up, it shows up strong.
The Heritage Parade festivities were a wonderful reminder of our unwavering commitment to Putting Kids First and creating a stronger, healthier, and happier community—simply by being present for one another.
Our dedication to this principle is evident not only through events like the parade but also through the enthusiastic participation in the Elementary and Secondary Parent Superintendent Advisory Committees, as well as the Student High School Advisory Committee. The engagement of parents, students, and staff is key to our district’s growth. Parents and guardians are equipping themselves to better support their students' learning by attending our free workshops on various educational topics, such as ESL Adult Classes, Positive Discipline Workshops, and the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), which includes both Family Literacy and STEM programs.
Research consistently shows that when schools and families work hand-in-hand to support education, students not only perform better in school but also thrive throughout life. For example, the PIQE STEM class at Valadez Middle School Academy, which helps families build a strong foundation in math and science, has more than 80 parents and guardians actively participating in its four-week program. Thank you for your ongoing support—it is truly an honor to serve as your superintendent of schools.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alex Cherniss
