A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
Trustworthy is the character pillar this month, and this week it couldn't ring more true! This past week was filled with completely unnecessary EXTRA work that was put on this campus (with admin, teachers, and custodial staff) related to the latest TikTok challenges that students are being encouraged and actually participating in that leads to vandalizing and stealing from campuses and staff. Yes, I am just as stunned at the pure lack of respect, as you.
On Thursday of this week during announcements, I pointed out that this behavior will NOT be tolerated. It will be investigated (because we have cameras going in and out of bathrooms) and we WILL be pressing charges for damages, as well as, sending students to ALC. This is a Level 3 offense in the LCISD student code of conduct. More importantly, I let them know this is a direct reflection of their character, their family's good name, and it will quickly remove them from ANYTHING UIL on this campus. (Sports, Fine Arts, Honor Society, Officer Positions, etc) That would be a shame.
There are NO WARNINGS, just consequences at this point. We are short staffed, especially with our hard working custodial staff, and this is causing them extra work that is truly from nothing more than pure disrespectfulness. I know that you taught them better, now please help us by having a discussion about the basic rules of respect that we all learned in Kindergarten. Choosing to be trustworthy by having good character and showing respect for our school, employees, and their family's good name is a non negotiable. If you are still in disbelief, as I am, I have a attached a couple of pictures to show you some of the damage. I expect better, because we ARE better! If you think I sound upset, that's because I am, more than anything I am truly just disappointed in the lack of accountability and regard to other's property that some now feel they are entitled to.
As you have heard, this damage has caused us to have to shut down half the restrooms during lunches, so that we have enough staff on duty to monitor students going in and out. No one has time for that, as it pulls us away from instructional meetings and keeping the rest of our building safe and secure. For the record, I also know that you taught them better, so please help us by monitoring their social media and having "real talk" discussions about "THE BASIC" expectations of having and SHOWING school pride by taking care of our building and people in it! Truly BEING trustworthy, means you will consistently display good character and respect for our school, employees, your family's good name, and our fellow Longhorns.
Enough fussing....let's talk about all the GOOD stuff going on and how this week we will keep #buildingGReatness in and out of the classroom! Make sure to follow us on Twitter using our hashtag #WeAreGR to see the GR-eat stuff! PJ day is Wednesday....which advisory will have the HIGHEST percentage of participation and win the prize? Attendance matters for this one this week...so DON'T be absent! The ADVISORY that goes "ALL OUT IN PJ's" (must be REALLY visible in TWITTER PIC) will enjoy PANCAKES with Patterson on Thursday! Get those ONESIES out and SHOW UP BIG! Dress code still counts...just think if you wear your Onesie, you are COVERED! :)

FORT BEND COUNTY FAIR DAY IS THIS FRIDAY 9/24 - THERE WILL BE NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF!
THIS IS NEXT MONDAY- Follow Your Longhorn's Schedule
TIPS:
- Parents please print or screen shot your student's schedule, as you will be reporting to each classroom on their schedule for a short overview of the syllabus, course/teacher expectations, and contact info.
- All GRHS staff will be in the hallways and have on maroon "The Maroon Track" shirts, so if you need assistance on where to go we are here to point you in the right direction, all you have to do is ask!
- Enter through the front doors...you can't miss it, Big George and many of our our GRHS Seniors will be welcoming you to the Ranch!
- This classroom rotation will move very quickly (about 10 min per class), so if you need to meet with a teacher for a conference regarding your student, I ask that you email them to set up a time at a later date. This cannot happen during Open House, as this pulls them away from meeting and greeting all the other parents which is the sole purpose of this event.
- Our PTO (table by library) and the ABC (spirit wear trailer out front) will be set up for you to shop that night too.

GRHS DRESS CODE - REVIEW IT - KNOW IT - BE IN IT!
Longer shorts, longer shirts, and pants pulled up!
Dress code and ID's Mandatory!
- REAL TALK W/DRESS CODE: Ladies, you need some longer shorts 3-4 inches below the inseam. We are no longer allowing you to wear a jacket/sweater to cover up a crop top-because it is NOT staying zipped/buttoned. If you have a jacket/sweater on, (and a tank that shows your midriff) it MUST be zipped ALL day long or you will get a dress code violation and be sent to your AP. Gentlemen, pull up those pants, we should not be seeing those undies/shorts. House shoes are not deemed acceptable forms of "slides". Let's get tight IN SCHOOL Longhorns and save those clothing items for after school and weekend fun! Appreciate you!
- LANYARDS W/GRHS ISSUED ID - ALL GRHS STUDENTS SHOULD NOW HAVE AN ID AND LANYARD AND ARE EXPECTED TO BE WEARING IT 100% OF THE TIME INSIDE OUR BUILDING! GRHS ID's must be VISIBLY WORN on the TOP half of your body. If you refuse, you will have disciplinary consequences. Being responsible for 2641 students is a big job, and I need for all GRHS staff to be able to identify and assist students quickly. Thanks for following this rule.
This graphic is a little hard to read, so I have attached the link to a printable PDF below!
Remember Longhorns, the earlier you order the better the price of the book! Order today!
