JUAN'S WORDS: MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Dear Woodburn Families, Staff, and Community Members,
Today marks November 1st and I’m reminded of the season of thankfulness. A spirit of gratitude brings joy, encouragement, resilience, kindness, and compassion. It’s a value that we have the opportunity to practice all year long but as we approach this season of gratitude, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks to each one of you for your work to engage, inspire, and prepare each student to learn, lead, and contribute towards an equitable community both local, and global. The start of the year has been filled with both triumphs and challenges but each day, I am reminded of the dedication of our staff, the support of our families, and the enthusiasm of our students, all of which make our schools a place of growth and opportunity.
Our schools play a vital role in shaping the future of our children, and to give every student the opportunity to succeed. We need our partners to achieve this for each student and today we need to voice our partners.
Oregon's Integrated Plan for School Districts is a framework designed to ensure that every school district is focused on equity, academic achievement, and the well-being of all students. Whether it's improving curriculum, enhancing mental health support, or creating safe learning environments, this plan lays the foundation for lasting success.
Our current priorities guide us in helping every student thrive. These include:
Mental health and safety to ensure students feel supported.
Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to provide personalized help for students based on their needs.
Keeping students in 9th grade on track to graduate successfully.
College and career readiness programs that prepare students for the future.
Expanding career and technical education (CTE) for hands-on learning opportunities.
Supporting dual language education for a diverse learning environment.
Strengthening early literacy instruction to build strong foundations in reading.
Promoting STEAM education—science, technology, engineering, arts, and math—for creative and critical thinking.
Fostering a positive climate, culture, and attendance for better learning experiences.
Engaging families and caregivers as partners in education.
Building strong community partnerships to enrich our schools.
No plan is complete without partner input. As parents, caregivers, community members, and students, you have valuable insights into what your schools need to thrive. That’s why we’re revising the district plan—and we need to hear from you.
By revising the district’s integrated plan, we can ensure that all students, regardless of their background, abilities, or circumstances, have access to a high-quality education that prepares them for the future.
Here’s how you can get involved: Participate in our community survey and attend school events. Every idea counts, and your input helps shape the future of education in Woodburn
Together, we can build stronger schools and brighter futures for all students.
Thank you for being part of this important journey. Let’s make a difference—together!

EVERY DAY MATTERS!
Regular school attendance is critical to keeping kids connected and on the path to success. Please help us by prioritizing regular school attendance. At home, you can help your student by:
- Talking about the importance of going to school every day
- Establishing and maintaining regular routines such as finishing homework and getting a good night sleep
- Scheduling necessary appointments outside of the regular school day when possible
- Communicating with the school when you notice sudden changes in behavior or have questions regarding academic progress or additional supports
By working together, we can create a supportive culture that will help your child be successful!
Every Day Matters seeks to expand systemic support and advocacy to address barriers to attendance and examine and remove the root causes of chronic absenteeism, especially for focal student groups, through collaboration across systems both within ODE and with partners across the state. This contributes to higher levels of student engagement and belonging, increased student achievement, and greater preparation for students to create meaningful futures for themselves and their communities.
