Welcome back!
The second semester will begin for students on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025. As usual, the car rider line will open at 6:55 am. Students who arrive after 7:25 am will be considered tardy. Early checkouts end each day at 1:45 pm and students dismiss at 2:10 pm. Thank you in advance for making sure your child is at school on time each day!
Kickstart a Healthy New Year
As we embrace 2025, many of us are focused on sticking to resolutions that prioritize health and wellness. What better way to support your family’s healthy habits than by ensuring your child starts their day with a nutritious breakfast and enjoys a balanced lunch?
We offer free breakfast and lunch to all our students in the school cafeteria. Our meals are carefully planned to meet nutritional guidelines, providing your child with the energy they need to stay focused and thrive throughout the day. By encouraging your child to enjoy school meals, you’re not just saving time and money—you’re also setting the foundation for healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime.
If you plan to visit your child for lunch, please remember outside food items are not permitted. This includes fast food meals, homemade items to share with the class, and store-bought cupcakes, sheet cakes, etc. If you intend to celebrate a special occasion with your child's class, please schedule the occasion with your child's teacher and order food items from the East Albemarle Cafeteria. An order form is linked below; please request items at least two weeks in advance.
Welcome, Ms. Young!
We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Young as our new Media & Technology Specialist at East Albemarle! Ms. Young brings a deep love of reading and a passion for fostering curiosity and creativity in students. She is excited to ensure our media center is fully stocked with engaging books and resources to inspire young minds.
To help her get the media center in tip-top shape, we need your help! If you have any missing library books, now is the perfect time to return them. Avoid those pesky fees that can stack up and follow you from one school to another. Let’s work together to make our media center a place where every student can explore, learn, and grow. Welcome, Ms. Young!
Report Cards - January 14
Report cards for the second quarter will be sent home with students on January 14th in their Tuesday Folder. The report card envelope will also include your child's performance reports from recent reading and math assessments. Depending on their performance on these assessments, you may also receive a notification of consideration for grade retention. We believe in setting students up for success in the next grade by ensuring they have a solid reading foundation. If you receive this letter, you will also need to meet with your child's teacher to discuss their performance and strategies to increase their growth before the next diagnostic assessment. The notice of retention consideration is not a final determination, that will be made by a team at the end of the year after all assessments have been completed.
We hope you will review your child's report card documents carefully and celebrate their success! As always, please reach out to their teacher if you have questions or concerns.
School Improvement Committee Meetings - January 15
If you are a parent or guardian interested in actively contributing to our school improvement efforts, we would love to hear from you! Your input is invaluable as we work together to enhance our school's environment and success. The next committee meetings will be held on Wednesday, January 15th at 2:30 pm in the East Albemarle media center.
Student-Led Conferences - February 17
Save the date! We will hold our annual Student-Led Conference event at East Albemarle on Monday, February 17th, 2025, 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Attendance at this event satisfies the requirement for a third quarter parent/student/teacher conference. Plan to attend, or send a grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc. if you are not able to be here. Your child will practice leading the Student-Led Conference at school and will be disappointed if they are not able to "show off" for you at the event on February 17th.
Additional information for this event will be shared later in January. Keep an eye out on Class Dojo!
