Monthly Update-November 2018
Believe IT or not
It is hard to believe we are almost a third of the way through the school year. We are so looking forward to seeing all of you at conferences on the 8th or 19th of this month.
One thing we have not communicated very well is how much our teachers care about your child. It really doesn't matter what teacher your son or daughter has at SIS-if your child needs extra time and support to learn at high levels, we guarantee he or she will receive it. If they need extension or extended learning opportunities, we guarantee that he or she will receive it. Please let us know if you don't feel like either of these are happening consistently. On the flip side, if your child's teacher is routinely going above and beyond, let them know how thankful you are. We have some amazing teachers who give greatly to this community and school system.
As we look at our grading rubric regarding the writing process here at SIS, we want to be very clear with how we are assessing the process. The standards we use are aligned to learning targets, and most of those are based on end of the year standards. Lucy Calkins has four Units of Study that will be taught throughout the course of the year, and we just completed the first unit. With this, many of our students will be in the developing phase this early in the year. Please do not be alarmed or worried if you son or daughter is in this phase. It is completely natural and appropriate for this to be the case. Thanks for your support and let us know what questions you may have.
Welcome new SIS staff members!
THANK YOU!
