A Message from the Principal
Dear Prairie Wind Families,
At Prairie Wind Elementary, we’re charging ahead with purpose every day toward our vision: ensuring that every student is on grade level and growing at least one grade level each year. This mission isn’t just a statement—it’s a shared commitment by our staff and students.
Every week, our students and teachers set ambitious goals and monitor their progress, working together to move the academic needle. It’s inspiring to see the determination in our Stallions as they strive for excellence, one step at a time.
Your partnership plays a huge role in this journey. By supporting your child’s learning at home, encouraging them to reach their goals, and staying engaged with their progress, you help us make our vision a reality. Together, we’re making growth happen—one goal, one achievement, and one day at a time.
Thank you for being part of our team!
Sincerely,
Ms. Tamika Walker

Attendance Matters at Prairie Wind!
Being on time and staying for the entire school day sets students up for success! Arriving by 8:30 AM ensures they don’t miss key lessons and activities that build a strong foundation for learning. Staying until dismissal at 4:05 PM allows them to fully participate in group work, enrichment, and other valuable experiences. Consistent attendance fosters responsibility, respect, and lifelong habits that lead to success. Let’s work together to make every school day count!

From the School Nurse
Dental Health Month:
February is Dental Health month, and our first graders will be learning about how to properly take care of their teeth. We will be discussing how often we are to brush, what foods are friendly towards are teeth, and when to see the dentist. Younger children should get some assistance from their parents with flossing and sometimes brushing. Be sure to keep your child's 6-month dentist appointments and let us know if you need help finding a dentist.
Illness Guidelines:
Please continue to be vigilant with keeping kids home if their fever has been 100.4 or higher or have experienced vomiting or repeated episodes of diarrhea for the last 24 hours. Your student should be fever free and vomiting/diarrhea free for 24 hours (without medication) before returning to school. Attendance is important; however, kids do need time to recover from being ill.

From the Counselors
Happy February!
In the counseling department, February is our favorite month!
February features lessons focused on teamwork, kindness, cooperation, respect, and family. Families can support our lessons by:
· Talking with kiddos about the importance of working together in groups or on teams,
· Talking about ways to be helpful to others
· Encouraging your child to ask questions like, How can I help with that? or Do you need anything? when they are working with others.
The counseling department is excited to put the “I” in Kindness by celebrating Kindness Week . Prairie Wind Kindness Week will be the week of February 18-21. Each day will feature a dress up day as well as a kindness challenge. The kindness challenge will hopefully inspire other acts of kindness which will create a kindness wave! Feel free to join in the challenge at home by encouraging your student to try some of these easy kindness acts: greet peers/adults, give compliments, hold the door open, and/or share some encouraging words.
Please reach out to your student’s teacher or counselor if your student needs winter gear (coat, hat, mittens).
Thanks so much, and please reach out if you need anything!
