a note from your director
As we begin the last full week of January we want to continue our momentum into February!!
There are few items this week we want to ensure everyone knows are happening! At the forefront of this topic is the Johnson High School Winter Guards first competition of the season!!!! This Saturday, 1/29/2022, our Varsity and Junior Varsity Winter Guards will travel to Dripping Springs HS to open their competitive season!! Let’s wish them the very best of luck as they continue to prepare for this big event!!
Next, we are two weeks away from UIL Solo & Ensemble contest. That means all accompaniment rehearsals will be in full swing over these next two weeks! Please make sure that all performers are ready and prepared for their accompaniment rehearsal! The contest is going to be held at Hays High School on Saturday February 5th.
This week we will be taking our students to see the Austin Symphony Orchestra perform at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center. On Friday, 1/28 the ASO will be presenting their Educational Series Concert at the Hays PAC and each of the Hays CISD High Schools will be attending to watch. An additional piece of excitement is that Julia Brandt, one of Johnson HS Jaguar Band’s flautist, will be a guest performer!! Can wait to see this event! We know Julia is going to be an incredible representative for our band program!
Let’s have another great week! As always: It’s A Great Day To Be A Jaguar!

Winterguard Fees: $200
This fee covers costs such as unitards, inventory for shoe and glove replacements, competition entries, prop supplies, design and production services, and shared cost of contributing towards production of show, including cost of floors, props and costumes.
Please note that we are able to keep these costs low by 1) contribution from boosters towards costumes and props; and 2) the small amount of funds provided by the district to the overall “band” program. (FYI each color guard costume, whether it be marching band or winter guard, costs on average $200).
You can pay your Winterguard Fee on the band website at https://www.johnsonbands.com/all-products
- If you would like to make arrangements for payments or seek assistance with costs, please feel free to contact Ida Musgrove at president@johnsonbands.com. We do not want costs to prevent any student from participating in guard!
