Grijalva Family and Friends
Happy New Year from all of us at Grijalva!
Welcome back to the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year. We hope you and your families had a very restful and enjoyable holiday season. We are very excited to start this January with all of you. We have so many things planned for this year and we look forward to all the new learning that will happen.
Your child’s education is our top priority and it’s very important that they arrive to school on time to get a full day of instruction. If students are consistently late, the minutes add up to a lot of instructional time missed. We are continuing with our effort to reduce the number of tardy students on campus. As a reminder, the first bell rings at 7:40 and our teachers take attendance precisely at 7:45. Students arriving after 7:45 should check in with the office staff before going to class. For the safety of your child, please do not arrive prior to 7:30, the cafeteria breakfast and our playground do not have student supervision prior to 7:30. Please help us to ensure that your child is on time and ready to learn. Classes are dismissed at 1:50 (or 12:50 on Wednesdays).
As we are also still in the midst of cold and flu season, please help us keep everyone healthy by keeping your child home if they are not feeling well. Students should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Make sure to contact the front office at 520-908-3600 and let us know when your child is absent. It helps us ensure our students are safe and want everyone to be aware that unexcused absences not only affect school funding but also impede the learning process.
2nd quarter report cards are now available in ParentVUE. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns regarding grades earned or comments or to set up a parent teacher conference. Please call the office at 520-908-3600 if you need assistance accessing your ParentVUE account.
We are enrolling for the 2025-2026 school year. Yearly registration confirms that Grijalva has the most up-to-date information for your child’s success in school. Parents must re-register for the upcoming school year. Please go to ParentVUE and enroll for 2025-2026! Remember we need you to attach your proof of residency and any documents that are required for registration. If you need help please call the office at 520-908-3600. If you know of any parents who are looking for a school to register their child/children please encourage them to come to Grijalva and take a tour.
Don’t forget to make your tax credit contribution to Grijalva! We need it more now than ever. Single individuals (or married, filing separately) can receive a credit of up to $200. Married couples filing a joint return can receive a credit of up to $400. Tax credit is a subtraction from any taxes you may owe to the state. For example, if you owe the state $500 and you contribute $200 to Grijalva tax credit, your state liability will be $300. If you do not owe and get a refund, your refund amount will be increased by the amount you donate to tax credit. It is a WIN, WIN! Tax credit dollars fund academic programs, sports, fine arts, field trips, tutoring, and for a short time capital school improvements. We are very thankful and appreciative of your tax credit support. You can still donate for 2024.
Please remember to follow all traffic rules when picking up and dropping off students in the morning and afternoon - we want to keep everyone safe during those busy times of the day. When in the parking lot, be sure to go slow and pay attention as many families and students walk through the parking lot and surrounding streets to get to and from school each day. Please be sure to pull all the way forward when dropping off your student, to avoid the line backing up.
We have water bottle filling stations in our hallways. Make sure your student brings a refillable water bottle (please put their name on it) to school every day. It can be a disposable water bottle or a personal water bottle. They can leave their water bottle in the classroom during the week or take it back and forth daily. Please do not send your child to school with anything other than water in their water bottle. For lunch, juice or flavored water are welcome, but please do not send your child to school with soda or caffeinated drinks.
We are hosting a TALENT SHOW for all grades. If your child has a talent and wants to perform, we will be holding auditions January 15, after school from 1:00-2:00 PM in the cafeteria. Please reach out if you have any questions!
