Reading Plus
What is Reading Plus?
Reading Plus is designed to improve your child's reading. This is accomplished by enhancing a student's vocabulary, assisting with reading comprehension, and increase their reading pace. Teachers are able to closely monitor your student's progress and can provide support when needed.
How does Reading Plus work?
Students choose a story (typically 6-7 minutes in length) from a level appropriate to their reading ability. Once they have completed the text, students are given questions to test their understanding. Reading Plus is designed to help your child become a more efficient reader.
How can you see what your child is doing on Reading Plus?
Ask you child to show you their Reading Plus Dashboard. From the Dashboard you can see when they have been on Reading Plus, for how long, how well they are doing, the level they are reading at, and their reading speed.
How to help your child make the most of Reading Plus?
- Celebrate their successes! Congratulate them when they receive 80% or higher on a text and when they have consecutive scores of 80% or higher as this combinations helps your child move up a reading level.
- Remind and encourage your child to use the ReRead button while complete the questions. They receive 5 chances to use the ReRead button and they are not penalized for using them.
- Ensure that they have complete their Reading Plus assignments each week. RMS resets assignments each week on Sunday night at midnight.
- Remind you child that if they do not complete their assignments, they are allowed to "double-up" the following week to make up for their missed work.

Georgia Milestones Assessment
What is the Georgia Milestones Assessment?
The Georgia Milestones Assessment is a comprehensive assessment given to Georgia students in grades 3 - 12. The Georgia Milestones measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state-adopted content standards in English language arts (ELA) math, science, and social studies. Students in 3rd - 8th grade take the End-of-Grade assessment in ELA and math, 5th and 8th grade students take an EOG assessment in science, and 8th graders take an EOG assessment in social studies.
When will my child take the Georgia Milestones?
RMS students will take the Milestones assessment Monday, April 21 - Friday, April 25, 2025.
How can I help my student prepare for the Georgia Milestones?
- Make sure you child arrives to school on time or a little early during testing days.
- Provide your student with a healthy breakfast.
- Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before the tests.
- Do not schedule appointments during the mornings of testing week.
- Encourage your child to do their best and remind them that this is just a way to show the state what they have learned this school year.
What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online program for math that our teachers use to determine a student's needs, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. iReady consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Personalized Instruction. These two parts allow our teachers to meet your student at exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student's learning.
What is the i-Ready Diagnostic?
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student's needs. Each question is individualized based on their previous answer. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. The purpose of this test is not to give your child a grade, but to determine how best to support your student's learning.
What is i-Ready Personalized Instruction?
i-Ready Personalized Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level, so your student can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are interactive to keep your student engaged as they learn. i-Ready is designed to complement what is being taught in your child's classroom. Online lessons are designed to bolster your student's greatest area of need.
How can you support your student with i-Ready?
- Encourage your student to take each i-Ready lesson and quiz seriously. Emphasize "thinking before clicking" since just clicking through will not give your child's teacher an accurate report of what your child knows.
- Encourage your child to use the tools that appear at the bottom the the screen in some lessons.
- Check with your child's teacher to discuss their i-Ready Diagnostic, progress toward goals, placement level, and proficiency.
