This year, we focus on "Growing in Mercy, with the Son" as part of our three-year journey of spiritual growth. Our goal is to help students, parents, and staff know, model, and witness Jesus Christ through fostering a culture of evangelization, faith formation, and vocation within our schools.

Fowler's Dungeons and Dragons group, Dragonfire Club, is getting ready for another year of awesome adventures, delving into dungeons, and fighting fearsome foes. Meeting on Wednesdays after school, Dragonfire club is open to all students in grade 7, 8, and 9. No experience necessary!

As you are already likely aware, a Ministerial Order establishing standards to limit children and students' use of personal mobile devices and access to social media in Alberta's K-12 schools was issued in June. The restrictions take effect in September.

R. S. Fowler has already been following restricted use of cell phone procedures, however there is a significant change that will be implemented in all GSACRD jr. high school.

Below is a summary of the expectations and consequences. As well, a formal note from the administration was sent to all parents earlier today.

Thank you for your support in helping our students (your children) focus on learning!

Expectations for students around Personal Mobile Devices:

• Cellphones are to be kept on silent, and stored in lockers during instructional time.

• Smartwatches are not to be used to connect to the internet or to communicate with others during class time, and notifications should be turned off to eliminate distractions.

• Tablets and laptops will continue to be used as instructional tools under the teacher's direction. Students are welcome to bring them to class as they have in the past.

Consequences:

• Students found using their phones in class or during instructional periods will be asked to hand their phones over to a teacher or to the administration. Parents will be notified, and students will be expected to keep their phones at home or turn them in at the office each morning for 5 consecutive school days.

• Students found misusing their smartwatches will be asked to turn them off or leave them at home.

• If students breach these expectations, parents/guardians will be notified.

School fees and option fees are now posted to the parent portal with the exception of Construction and Fashion, which are project based and will be posted in the next 2 weeks. Please continue to login to your parent portal regularly.

Yearbooks for the 2024/25 School are available for purchase in your parent portal.

The previously purchased 2023/24 yearbooks will arrive typically in October and they will be distributed at that time.

We hope that each student is coming to school with a robust device, such as a Chromebook, as most work is completed using Google Classroom and other online platforms. If your child does not have a device you can sign an agreement form and borrow a school Chromebook.

If you are looking to purchase a Chromebook there is a sale on an acer 8GB Rugged 2-in-1 Chromebook at Staples ($299.99 Reg. $479.99). Just ask for model number 3068766. This one is supposed to be quite durable and is spill resistant.

Our parking lot is a busy place in the morning. To ensure it is safe for students, we have a designated bus lane and drop-off zone. Please only open the doors to exit your vehicle once you are past the "drop-off zone" sign. See diagram below. Students exiting the car before will be asked to get back in the car until in the drop-off zone. We appreciate your support to ensure our parking lot is a safe place.

Holy Family Parish has made a Mass intention for our associated schools at the daily Mass on Thursday, August 29th at 9:00 a.m. Families of the associated schools are invited to attend this Mass!

We are excited to begin year 9 of our team and competiting in Junior High Media division! There is no experience required to participate on our team and we will teach you all that you need to know!

The Chargers Cheer team will begin on September 17 from 4-5:30 pm at the SACHS small gym. All practices will be held at SACHS in the small gym on Tuesday's beginning September 17 from 4-5:30 pm and Thursday's beginning September 19 from 4-5:30 PM! Athletes on the team are expected to participate in all practices, showcases, and competitions. Competition season will begin after Christmas Break and end in mid April (dates to be provided at the parent meeting).

Athletes who are in ESSMY grade 6-9, Sister Alphonse grade 6-9, VJM grade 7-9, and Fowler grade 7-9 are welcome to join!

An email with more information will be sent home to all registered athletes and parents on September 13!
