After-School Programs
Our After-School Program Begins! Students enjoyed learning how to play the piano, paint a Dalmatian, and hip-hop the day away at this week's kickoff to the after-school program. Thanks to the PTO and Tony Persaud for organizing these wonderful activities!
Make a child's birthday special!
Right here in Shelton, we have students in need of food and the daily necessities that many of us take for granted. Did you know that you can bake a box cake with just a can of soda--no eggs or oil required? It is true! You can make a child's birthday extra special by donating the supplies to bake & decorate a a birthday cake in an aluminum pan. These will go to Shelton families in need through the Audrey Dreyer Food Shelter at Perry Hill School. See flyer and picture below for more details.
LAST CHANCE TO ORDER YOUR BEAUTIFUL MUMS! PLACE YOUR ORDER BY 9/15!
π¨ Updates from the Art Room
Issue 1.1
Hello Parents,
Starting this school year, βUpdates from the Art Roomβ will be posted to share some of the projects and ideas taught in the BHS art room. This week, we will be focusing on Kindergarten art.
The general theme of all the art projects this school year will be *VEHICLES*.
Here is a link from βBarefoot Booksβ that shares a fun song about vehicles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSw50Jw0H34
Check it out!
We have been listening to this song in class in the K-2 classes. It has been the stepping off point for class discussions about types of vehicles, and learning about placement of lines within a space.
Kindergarten has been learning about βGround Linesβ. We are talking about the difference and location of the βSkyβ and βGroundβ in an artwork. At this beginning level, we also are focusing on basic brush and painting skills. We also are learning how to follow art room routines and directions.
See below an example of a Kindergarten painting in process. You can see the sky has been completed and uses both white and blue paint. Mixing paint to make new colors has been another discovery this month. We will be adding grass and vehicles to this painting during future art classes.
During the next βUpdates from the Art Roomβ we will focus on another gradeβs art project at BHS.
See you next time!
-Ms. Bello

NEW NEWS:
Thanks to the PTO for a wonderful Ice Cream Social. Thanks to everyone who came out to kick off a great year and support the PTO.
Lost and Found -- Please check out the PTO Facebook page for the current items in our lost and found, and check back regularly. Items not claimed are washed and donated to charity.
RUN CLUB -- Run Club begins on Tuesday for those 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders who have pre-registered with Mrs. S. Drop off is at 8:15 at the main entrance. Please pull as far forward as you can in the bus loop so that we do not block Booth Hill Road traffic. Do not send your children to cross at the cross walk alone--safety first!
Drop off Reminder: Please do not park during morning drop-off. Crossing the line of traffic, even with a parent, is unsafe and slows down the line. If you must help your child out of the car, please park in front and sign your child in at the Main Entrance. Thanks!
After-School Pick up -- Parents picking up from the after-school program should sign their children out in the Main Entrance vestibule before leaving with your child.
Summer Learning Celebration -- Please be sure to have your child complete and hand in Summer Learning Packets this week so that they will not be left out of the Summer Learning Celebration on Sept. 26. Ask your homeroom teacher for a packet if you need one.
OLD NEWS:
Smart Watches and Phones -- Please refrain from texting your child during school hours, and please encourage them to do the same. Smart phones and watches are to be tuned off and kept in the students' backpacks during the school day.
Bus swipe tags will now be distributed on September 17 to allow larger schools to organize and distribute them. In the meantime, you can download the My Ride K-12 app to your smartphone and track the bus using the information attached below in the parent Information section. Please note that this is a SSTS program, and all questions and comments need to be addressed to SSTS.
