The Eagle Report

Powell Eagle Report March 11, 2024
Spring is almost here! We are fostering GROWTH and GOING FOR GOALS across our campus. We are celebrating all of our students at the upcoming Open House community event on Tuesday, March 19. Please bring the whole family to enjoy time with classmates, families and staff.
This month, students will be taking their third round and final of the iReady Assessments in reading and math. Please encourage your child to do their very best. English Learner students will be taking the ELPAC to demonstrate progress in English reading, writing, listening and speaking. Excellent attendance will be critical this time of year. GRADE 8 Families: We have a meeting this Tuesday to share end-of-year activities and the requirements for participation. Grade 5 Families: The School of Choice application for middle school enrollment is required for all students and opens March 25.
This spring, we will continue to focus on safety and productive learning environments. Please continue to support our school discipline plan by discussing the importance of focus, goals and positive relationships with peers and adults. Arriving on-time, appropriately dressed, with cell phones OFF and put away are key behaviors we need parents to support with from home.
Thank you for being a partner with us in your child's success!
Soaring Together,
Mrs. Fieri, Principal
Mrs. Lund, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Lloyd, Parent and SEL Facilitator

iReady Testing is Here
This spring, we are celebrating perfect attendance with class and individual awards! Please support your child with regular attendance. It is essential for success in school. If your child is going to be absent or if you need to report an absence, please send a note to school or call our attendance clerk at 310-631-8794. Parents only have 5-days to clear any unverified absences, after five days the attendance code must be "unexcused" even if the student was sick.
When you send in an absence note, please write down the first and last name of the student, grade level, and the dates the student was out. This will help our Attendance Clerk get the attendance coded correctly and prevent truancies or unverified absences.
Scholastic Book Fair 3/11-3/15
Our Scholastic Book Fair open this week in our library. The book fair will be open to you and your student before school (8:15-8:45 am) and after school (3:05-3:45 pm) Monday through Thursday and open before school on Friday morning. Your student will also have a designated time to shop with their class during the week. Books develop and nourish kids' imaginations, expanding their worlds. Picture books introduce young children to the world of art and literature. Novels and nonfiction books stimulate kids' sensory awareness, helping kids to see, hear, taste, feel, and smell on an imagined level.

Bubble Run Friday 3/22/24
THE BUBBLE RUN IS ALMOST HERE! We are so excited to be able to share this unique fundraising opportunity with our Powell Community! This exciting, interactive event will take place on March 22nd and will be our biggest fundraising event of the year! Information packets were sent home March 5th - there is a QR code for you to easily access the fundraising platform where you can create a page for your student! You can then send your student’s specific link to family and friends all over the world! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, so we need your help to meet our goal! By reaching our goal, we will be able to provide field trips, supplies, and equipment to our amazing Powell Eagles. In addition to prizes for our top fundraisers in elementary and middle school, we have school wide fundraising goals! If we hit $5,000 raised, our school will get a pajama day. If we hit $10,000, the top ten fundraisers will get to silly string Mrs. Fieri. If we hit $15,000, the top five fundraisers will get to duct tape a staff member to the wall! We can do this Powell Eagles! All students will be running and doing events at the Bubble Run on 3/22. Dress in sporty clothes!
