Your Weekly Update from Natick High School

From the Principal's Desk
Hello Natick High School Caregivers!
It is a short week this week in honor of Veterans Day, which is on Saturday, November 11th, and is being celebrated tomorrow, November 10th. I always take a moment on Veteran's Day to pause and think of my father, who was a Captain in the United States Army. His love of country and duty to serve was an important factor in how I was raised. I want to give heartfelt thanks to all of the veterans in the Natick community for their selfless acts of bravery on behalf of us all.
In honor of School Psychologists' Week, I also wanted to give a shout out to our awesome team of School Psychologists: Deanna Kanavas-DeRocher, Kacie Ellison and Rebecca DiEoreo! They support our students in so many ways.
Looking forward to the next two weeks, grades are being release for term 1, our Food Drive will be in full swing, and the Thanksgiving pep rally, football game and holiday are on the horizon! We can feel the energy in the building, and hope that you are feeling a similar level of positive energy in your neck of the woods.
All My Best,
Josepha Blocker
Principal, Natick High School

Annual Student Council Food Drive
Natick High School typically provides one of the largest annual donations to a Place to Turn, a food pantry in Natick. Last year, we donated over 5,000 items, and this year the need is even greater; A Place to Turn is currently serving 47% more people than they were last year at this time. To enter, students must bring non-perishable items to the front lobby. We hope to exceed last year's total!
This Week's Messages from Guidance
Each week our Guidance Department updates their page with important grade-specific information, including:
- Information for all grades on College and Career Readiness
- Information on specifics for post-secondary planning and other school details.
Student IDs
Student IDs have been delivered! Students should have their IDs on with them whenever they are at school.
Students will need their IDs to:
- Check in if they are tardy,
- Check in and out for priv., and
- To purchase food.
Any students who have not had their pictures taken, and therefore do not have an ID, should plan to be photographed when Paradise Photos returns to NHS (date to be determined shortly). Students do NOT need to purchase photos to have their photo taken for their ID; all students must have this annual photo taken.
Lock Your Bike!
School Resource Officer O'Shaughnessy would like to remind all students to lock up their bikes when they are parked on school grounds. A few students have recently reported stolen bikes, and Natick Police is working closely with us to address this issue.
REDHAWK PRIDE
Two NHS Students Selected for Senator Karen Spilka's Youth Advisory Council
Congratulations to Seniyah Hood and Hannah Schwichtenburg, who were chosen to participate in the Youth Advisory Council through Senate President Karen K. Spilka’s Office. Together, they will be gaining a deeper knowledge of the legislative process. They will also be able to share their diverse experiences and perspectives with the Senate, as they consider potential legislation. This is a huge honor for Seniyah and Hannah, and for NHS!
Congrats to Some Amazing Seniors
NCAA Signing Day
This week, ten NHS student athletes signed Letters of Intent to accept scholarships to play their chosen sport in college. It is rare for a high school to have so many student athletes achieve this honor, and we are so proud of them!
National Honor Society Induction
Last night, we also inducted 178 seniors into the National Honor Society in recognition of their scholarship, leadership, service and character. This group of students stood out for their academic achievements, and the myriad ways that they have contributed to our school and larger community. Congratulations to them and their families!

A Message From the Class Officers and Advisors
The class advisors and class officers are busy planning important events for your class. However, in order to begin securing locations and vendors, we need each student to pay their class dues. Class dues are a $100 payment that each student is required to pay before they graduate. These dues help cover expenses and lower the cost of admission for events such as the Senior Prom.
Students should bring a check, made out to the Class of (the year they are expected to graduate), for $100 and deliver it to one of their class advisors. Class Advisors are:
Class of 2024: Anthony Cuoco - ancuoco@natickps.org & Danny Joseph - djoseph@natickps.org
Class of 2025: Neil Donohue - ndonohue@natickps.org & Brenna Keefe - bkeefe@natickps.org
Class of 2026: Emily Cunningham - ecunningham@natickps.org & Becky Tramontozzi - rtramontozzi@natickps.org
Class of 2027: Deanne Kanavas-DeRocher - dkanavas-derocher@natickps.org & Jim Brosnihan - jbrosnihan@natickps.org
Financial support is available for those who qualify. Students can see their guidance counselor or class VP/Dean to seek aid.
Please reach out to your class advisor with any questions.

Information from the Health Clinic
Parents/Guardians of Grade 9 and Grade 10 Students: Please read the Mandated Screening Letter. This is important to read, as there is an opt out date to respond by if you don't want your student(s) to participate.
Parents/Guardians of Grade 11 and Grade 12 Students: if your student is age 16 or over, per Massachusetts State requirements, the Health Office must have documentation of your student's Meningococcal Conjugate (MenACWY) vaccination on file. If you have already provided documentation (i.e. included in a recent physical), please disregard. This documentation may be emailed to highschoolnurses@natickps.org or faxed to 508-651-7167.
Additionally we would like to stress the importance of completing the online PowerSchool Emergency Forms for your student(s). These must be completed each school year. The nurses use these forms to access important health information and contact numbers. These forms also include permission to administer Tylenol and/or Ibuprofen; please note that these medications will not be given without a signature from a parent/guardian.
Thank you,
Your NHS Nurses,
