Mission
We will transform the learning experience within our inclusive community.
A Message from the Principal
Hello Hobby and Hobby Magnet Family,
This week, we proudly signed the Northside Decision of Respect Day, a district-wide initiative where students, faculty, and staff pledge to treat each other with kindness and respect. This commitment encourages everyone to communicate with a trusted adult if they feel unsafe.
Our campus counselors will provide lessons on the Decision of Respect and distribute certificates to reinforce this important message. We were honored to have Dr. Beithcman sign the pledge as a community representative, alongside students Connor Dylla and Trinity Douglas, who serve as role models for our Clark High School and Star Scholars programs.
Many of you have expressed interest in purchasing school shirts to show your support. You can find the link to our Swag Store here: Hobby Swag Store. We will continue to update the inventory as we improve this process.
Thank you for your continued support in fostering a respectful and safe environment for our students.

From the Magnet School Director
Attendance is very important here at Hobby Middle School. Missing a day here or there may not seem like a problem and we understand that students are going to get sick. But school absences add up quickly. Attendance habits established in September persist over the whole year.
Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school.
Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.
When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating
-Attendance Works
If your student misses a day for sickness or a medical visit, please send the note with the student or take a picture of the note and email it to Victoria.Denton@nisd.net
The good news is that showing up at school has powerful, positive effects on children. Just yesterday we could hear cheering from our office. Mrs. Staib commented on how wonderful it was to see how much fun the students were having in their classes. We have seen new friendships created and lots of smiles on their faces. Confidence is growing as they successfully navigate their design challenges and they are learning how to work in groups. We will continue to have challenges sent our way but we are blessed to have your children with us everyday!
Yard signs are here and can be purchased in the Hobby Magnet Office for $20.

Notes From The Nurse
Illness at School
If a nursing assessment determines that a child is ill, possibly contagious, injured at school, or needs further evaluation or treatment, the student will receive first aid, and the parent/guardian will be notified. We will make every effort to contact the parent/guardian first. If they cannot come for the child, the parent/guardian must arrange alternative care. In an emergency, the student will be transported by EMS.
Absence Due to Illness
The nurse has the responsibility if she suspects a contagious health condition to request that the child be picked up by the parent/guardian and examined by a physician for diagnosis and treatment. In all circumstances, the judgment of the school nurse prevails. Please notify the school of any confirmed contagious illness.
*Please keep all emergency phone numbers updated for our information*
Technology For Students
Chromebook Responsibility
As we begin a new school year, we are excited to continue integrating technology into our classrooms with the use of Chromebooks. The Chromebooks are powerful tools that enhance learning, and they also come with responsibilities. Outlined below are the expectations for Chromebook use to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for all students at Hobby Middle School
Chromebook Expectations
1. Academic Use: Chromebooks are to be used primarily for educational purposes.
2. Daily Care and Maintenance: Students are required to bring their Chromebooks and chargers to school each day fully charged and ready to use. Devices should be stored safely in their backpacks when not in use. Students should avoid eating or drinking near their Chromebooks to prevent accidental damage. Decorations and stickers are not allowed to be added to the Chromebooks.
3. Digital Citizenship: We emphasize the importance of responsible online behavior. Students must adhere to the school’s acceptable use policy, which includes respecting privacy, avoiding inappropriate content, and practicing good digital etiquette.
4. Monitoring and Privacy: While the Chromebooks are provided for educational use, please be aware that the school’s IT department monitors all activity on these devices to ensure compliance with our usage policies. Our BARK alert system will alert us of misuse and the student may have their chromebook taken away.
Costs and Repairs
While the school provides Chromebooks, students and parents are responsible for maintaining the device in good working condition:
In case of theft, a replacement device may be issued only if a Police Report is filed and submitted with the campus Technology Support Specialist (TSS). Breakage and misuse of the device will result in payment from the parent or guardian:
Repair Costs:
Device replacement cost $272
Cracked Screen: $100
Missing keys: $25
Charger replacement $13
If a Chromebook is damaged or not working properly, students should report it immediately to their TSS, teacher, or the office as soon as possible.
