COMMUNITY UPDATE
Hello North Rockland Families,
As the holiday season approaches, it provides us with a wonderful opportunity to pause, reflect and celebrate the many achievements within the North Rockland Central School District. This time of year is filled with festive activities that bring our school communities together and we have so much to be proud of.
We host holiday events and activities with an eye on safety. Our collaboration with the Haverstraw and Stony Point police departments and the Rockland County Sheriff's Office includes regular joint training sessions, coordinated emergency response plans and open lines of communication, all of which ensure a unified front should an emergency arise. In the new year, we also plan to call on the technical expertise of the Rockland BOCES Health, Safety and Security Services team to fully assess all North Rockland schools and properties and recommend key safety and security enhancements.
Along with School Resource Officer (SRO) coverage now in every district building, our focus on safety has never been stronger. Understanding the importance of cooperation, education and a police-citizen partnership makes our schools - and our local community - a safe and healthy place to live and learn.
One of the most exciting highlights of the season is the return of our Winter Concerts. Our students have been preparing for months, and it’s a joy to see long hours of rehearsals and practicing come together on-stage. The North Rockland High School Winter Concert, which took place Wednesday night, was an outstanding kickoff to this year’s performances. It was truly inspiring to hear such a wide range of musical talent and to witness how much our students have grown.
In the coming weeks, we look forward to enjoying musical performances in each of our schools. From elementary choirs to middle school bands, these concerts provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to shine and for families to come together to celebrate the season.
Another meaningful tradition at this time of year is the celebration of our Formerly Limited English Proficient (FLEP) students, who have reached the highest levels of English proficiency. These students have worked incredibly hard to achieve this milestone and, next week, we will honor them at North Rockland High School, Willow Grove, Haverstraw and West Haverstraw elementary schools. Congratulations to each of the FLEP students for their remarkable achievements - we are so proud of your hard work and perseverance!
In the world of athletics, our winter sports season is now in full swing. Our student-athletes are back in action and preparing for another exciting competition season. From basketball to wrestling, our teams are showing great determination and we know they will continue to represent North Rockland with pride. We wish all our athletes the best of luck as they compete in the weeks ahead.
As we prepare for the winter months, it’s also a good time to review NRCSD’s policies on inclement weather. Our district will continue to use traditional snow days until the three Board-designated snow days in our 2024-25 calendar are exhausted. If bad weather leads to more than three closures, we may consider implementing remote learning days. For more details on how weather-related announcements will be communicated, please refer to the "Weather-Related Announcements" section below.
Thank you for your continued support of the North Rockland Central School District!

Eighth graders in Ms. Allutto's class at Fieldstone Middle School took learning to a whole new level with a hands-on ice cream-making lab! Students dove into the concept of states of matter as they mixed milk, sugar and flavorings, then used ice and salt to freeze the liquid into creamy ice cream.

FAFSA Filing Night- December 9
Federal Financial Aid Information
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open. Colleges and career schools use the FAFSA form to determine how much financial aid you are eligible to receive, which could include grants, scholarships, work-study and loans. NYS is now requiring all families to complete the FAFSA or Dream Act or sign a waiver if they do not plan on completing either financial aid form. We encourage all students and families to complete the FAFSA or Dream Act. On Monday, December 9, we will host a FAFSA Filing Night where families can come to get help with completing the FAFSA or the Dream Act. We will have college financial aid reps as well as school counselors available to help in both English and Spanish. For more information and to register for FAFSA Filing Night, see the flyer. If you are unable to attend and need help, feel free to reach out to Tonianne DeSimone in the College and Career Center at tdesimone@northrockland.org or 845-942-3523.
