News from the nest
November 22, 2024
Hello Ramsey Families!
We are at the end of Trimester 1 already! Classrooms are celebrating the growth they have seen both academically and socially from our hard working eagles. Thank you to our PTO for providing the treat or our celebrations this trimester. Each classroom is hosted their own celebration in their own way on Friday, Nov. 22.
Report cards for trimester 1 will be available online for families beginning Dec. 9th. You must have an AHConnect account to view the report cards as Anoka-Hennepin went paperless last year. If you do not have an account, or you have lost your password, please contact 763-506-HELP.
Leading up to our last week of the trimester we decided to surprise the kids with an undercover theme week. Each day staff participated in a different theme as students tried to guess the patterns they were seeing. We had dress up days: Secret service, dress like a student and pajama day. The students really got a kick out of the "drink from anything but a cup day too!" Here are a couple of photos of the fun.
Students are off school the last week of November. Monday is a staff development day. Tuesday is a grading day for the end of the trimester. Then Wednesday is a trade day for teachers staying late for conferences this fall. Thursday and Friday are the holiday break. Trimester 2 begins Monday, December 2nd!
Our PTO is running their first large fundraiser. Information was sent home from the classroom on Monday the 18th and packets also went home. Please watch for updates throughout the month. The pick up for all items sold will be on December 12th!
Undercover Staff Theme Days Fall 2024
Habit of the Month
Our December Leader in Me Habit is to "Put first things first." This means that we are going to be learning how to prioritize what is important. Some of the things we talk about at school are things like "first work, then play." We also relate this to sequencing events and making a to do list in order of what needs to happen. Our students will have lots of practice in the short month of December!
MCA scores available for parents/guardians to view online
The 2024 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) Individual Score Reports for students who took a test during the 2023-24 school year are available for families to access online. Families can access the document by logging into A-HConnect or viewing it on the ParentVUE mobile app.
Students in grades 3-8 and in grades 10 and 11 take MCA tests each year. MCA reports will only be available for students who took an MCA test during the 2023-24 school year.
Click here to read more, and get step-by-step instructions for logging in to view your student's test score.
Lunch Visitors
Like other big schools in our area, we are using Sign-up Genius to have families book a reservation to ensure we have space to accommodate. We will have up to 6 visitors per grade level per day. All adult visitors must have a valid ID that will be scanned at the door.
The 7 Habits Workshop
It's not too late to join us for our last 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families Workshop! You can attend even if you did not attend the first two sessions. This month, we will be covering Habits 5, 6, and 7. Learn more about the 7 Habits in Leader in Me and see how you can support your student's leadership skills at home. This is an adult learning event. Childcare and snacks will be provided.
Numbers & Nachos
Thank you to those of you who attended our Numbers & Nachos event on November 12, please take a minute to fill out THIS SURVEY! Your feedback is important to us as we plan future family engagement events.
Winter weather reminders
Minnesota weather is shifting gears, and the Anoka-Hennepin School District has plans in place for when extreme winter weather arrives.
The safety of all students is the first priority when determining if schools should stay open in adverse weather. If a determination is made to close school due to extreme winter weather, the district will alert families in a variety of ways, including:
Text and email message from #AHSchools. (For parents/guardians only.)
District and school websites.
District and school social media pages (e.g. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter).
Media outlets including WCCO, KSTP, FOX 9, KARE 11, CCX Media, WCCO radio and Star Tribune newspaper.
Those responsible for activities scheduled in schools over the weekend will determine if adverse weather conditions necessitate a cancellation.
Read more about the district’s policies on extreme winter weather at ahschools.us/weather.

November Parent Press
Handling traumatic events can be a difficult topic for families to address. This month's Parent Press includes ways for caregivers to recognize the signs a child may exhibit after experiencing a traumatic event, as well as ways to provide connection and protect children.

We are looking for volunteers to help with Hearing and Vision Screening for 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders on Friday, December 6th from 9:15 am-12:00 pm and 12:00-3:45 pm.
No experience is necessary, and volunteers will receive a short training on how to complete their assigned screening prior to starting.
We will have several stations set up in one room for vision screening, and several stations set up in another room for hearing screening. Teachers will remain with their students during screening, and Health Office staff will be available as well.
Please click here for more information, and to sign up to support our students!
Weekly Art Room Help
Our Art Teacher has requested a volunteer that's available to help each week with a variety of tasks such as cutting, laminating, and hanging artwork. This can be done any day of the week except Wednesdays, during school hours, for up to 2 hours each week. If this is something that you'd like to help with, please send an email to: mary.woestehoff@ahschools.us
Weekly Workroom (Laminating) Help
I'm looking for volunteers that are available to help with laminating requests at school on Wednesdays for up to an hour and a half. The time (between 8:30a-4:00p) can be flexible to match your schedule, and training on the equipment will be provided.
Child Nutrition
If you're switching out your child's backpacks please make sure to also transfer their information tags. This helps us get them through the line at a much faster pace. Our goal is to have no students late to class to start their day!
The price of a mega bite (or extra main entree) went from $3.00 to $3.50. Students must have funds in their account to be able to purchase a mega bite or a milk. Milk cost is $.50.
If you come to have lunch with your student we accept cash or check. Exact change is preferred. You may make a payment online using a card through your child's lunch account and your meal may be charged to that account. Adult meal price is $5.00
