Walking the Halls of ECPS

Joseph Hayes, ECPS Director of Technology, recently presented "Making STEM Accessible for ALL Learners " at the Science for All Summit at the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill.
Tarboro High School Sports & Event Marketing and Hospitality & Tourism students recently stepped into the world of real-world application as they explored marketing strategies, operational logistics, and scheduling procedures at the Rocky Mount Event Center. The students also learned about various Internship opportunities available at the event center.
Phillips Middle School recently held their 3rd Annual Walk for Hope to bring awareness to teen mental health in our community.
MOSS Kids Book Project was able to bring author Antwan Eady virtually to kindergarten - 2nd grade classrooms at Martin Millennium Academy and Princeville Elementary School. The students listened to Eady discuss his childhood dreams & read his newest book — "The Last Stand." All 325 students were gifted a signed copy of the book donated by MOSS Kids Book Project.
G.W. Bulluck Elementary School has had fantastic turnouts for their recent "Muffins with Mom" events. Special shout out to England Alston from Central Office and Takisha Jones from SouthWest Edgecombe High School for serving as guest speakers!

Sheriff Clee Atkinson and United Way - Tar River Region Executive Director Ginny Morhrbutter thanked ECPS for our outstanding 2023-24 United Way Campaign.
North Edgecombe High School (Campaign Leader - Crystal Lancaster) was recognized as the top contributor among all schools in the district, followed by South Edgecombe Middle School (Campaign Leader - Dr. Jannotta Faulkner) and Martin Millennium Academy (Campaign Leader -Brandy Chappell).

In Parisher's Pizza Parlor at G.W. Carver Elementary School, Mrs. Parisher's 5th grade students demonstrated their fraction skills in a team competition. Servers helped the chefs add and convert the customers' pizza fraction orders in a race against the clock while the customers worked out their tables order to ensure accuracy.
Dr. Lane Freeman, Director of Online Instruction for the North Carolina Community College System, presented to Multi-Classroom Leaders from schools across the district an engaging session focused on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) models to revolutionize teaching methods, ensuring student development thrives. Balancing innovation with ethics, we're committed to fostering a future-ready learning environment!
Eighth-grade students in Ms. Bullock's class at West Edgecombe Middle School were joined by the BioNetwork in facilitating a crime scene investigation. Students gowned up and practiced working in sterile environments as they paired amino acids to proteins in hopes to find the type of blood they had in their crime scene.
The ECPS Elementary Battle of the Books competition was recently held on the campus of Edgecombe Community College. Students from all elementary schools did a fantastic job! Special thanks to the Technology Team for hosting the event and to the Digital Literacy Coaches and other teachers who coached the teams!
