AREA AND PERIMETER ISLANDS
1. PBL or thematic units - students in the primary grades use hands-on manipulatives to solve math problems
2. Keep students focused - take pictures of the process of learning and use iMovie trailers as a formative assessment of the math objective
3. iMovie does not need to be an end of project goal
4. Integrate - area and perimeter islands:
- write a fictional story about the islands using the mathematical dimensions
- learn about landforms in social studies

For the final part of the formative assessment, students took a screen shot of the "island" and put it into the Doodle Buddy app. Then they showed how they found area and perimeter. This was the last slide in the iMovie Trailer

Students used the GPS analytics tab during the race to analyze elapsed time, rest periods, elevation and the the speed of each musher
