Please spread the word about kindergarten registration. The sooner folks register, the more we can share about kindergarten orientation and plan for a successful 2025-26 school year.
Student Attendance
If you have a child who attends the Deer Hill School, you likely saw Mrs. Sullivan's message regarding attendance concerns. We have a similar issue here at Osgood. The table below demonstrates the number of unexcused absences and dismissals on Fridays in January and February compared with a typical mid-week day in February. These are just Osgood numbers.
While the most obvious impact of these absences and early dismissals is that those students miss instructional time that cannot be replicated outside the classroom, it also affects others in the school. When a child is dismissed early, instruction is interrupted so that student can make it down to the office, which could be several times on a Friday afternoon in many classes. Additionally, teachers must then make instructional decisions around pacing and small group instruction to support students who were out during a lesson...this can adversely affect the instructional time of all students in a class.
While we support the family time, memories, and learning that occur when children have opportunities to travel, the Osgood staff respectfully ask that you use our School Committee approved calendars (2024-25 always at the top of the SMORE and 2025-26 linked below) to plan around school days so that there are fewer disruptions to student learning at The Osgood.
Read-a-thon Week at Osgood
We are celebrating literacy this week! Your child will receive a BINGO sheet (if they haven't already) that includes fun reading challenges. PSO is providing incentives for completing parts or all of the sheets (see the PSO email or click the link below to view in your browser).
On Tuesday, 4 March, Steve Swinburne, children's book author, will be coming to see students a grade level at a time. I hear there is a ukulele involved...thank you PSO!
We are also hosting Literacy Game Night alongside the Book Fair on Wednesday night. You and your family can come anytime 4:30-6:30 to buy from the Book Fair and/or learn some fun literacy games with Osgood staff members. Make sure you sign in when you come...students whose parents make it out will receive an extra recess!
Guiding Good Choices Parent & Caregiver Workshop, March Session with Amy Mahoney, LICSW, Scituate School Counselor
Are you looking for ways to strengthen your relationship with your child as they navigate the challenges of adolescence? Do you want to feel more confident in setting boundaries and managing conflict at home? Would you like to connect with other parents and caregivers who are facing similar challenges? If so, Safe Harbor Cohasset Coalition invites you to join our upcoming 4-week workshop, “Guiding Good Choices,” designed for parents and caregivers of children aged 9-15. The workshop, led by Amy Mahoney, LICSW, and Scituate School Counselor, will equip families with the tools and strategies needed to foster stronger bonds, set healthy boundaries, and navigate the challenges of adolescence with confidence.
Workshop Details:
- Dates: March 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th
- Time: 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
- Location: Willcutt Commons (Sail Loft), 91 Sohier Street, Cohasset, MA
- Special Session: March 19th will include your child/children for a collaborative learning experience.

Other Details: Dinner provided for all attendees. Onsite babysitting available upon request during registration. A $15.00 fee for the Family Guide (payable by cash or check at the first class). Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

“Guiding Good Choices” creates a supportive environment where parents can share experiences and learn together. By joining this workshop, families will gain invaluable insights and practical skills to nurture resilience, trust, and mutual understanding.

Winter Notes
Winter is really here! Some things for you to know...
❖Outdoor recess occurs when the feels like temperature (factors in wind chill) is 20 degrees or above and it is not raining
❖In order to play in the snow, students must have snow pants and boots (or a change of pants)
❖Throwing snowballs is not allowed; no snowball fights. However, we encourage snowman building should we actually get some that sticks!
Please label each clothing item...we will do our best to return labeled items from the lost and found.
Safe Snack List
Please pack your child's snack separate from their lunch.
Transportation
For information regarding school transportation, please visit the transportation page on the new CPS website. All students must be registered through transportation to ride the bus. However, buses are full at this time and they are placing students on wait lists.
