Message from the Superintendent
Similar to last year, local law enforcement will utilize Stillwater School to conduct Critical Incident Response training. This is a wonderful opportunity for law enforcement to enhance their skills and knowledge, as well as gain a better understanding of the Stillwater School building.
From Wednesday, April 3 through Friday, April 5, roughly from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, you will see a
variety of local law enforcement and their vehicles on-site at Stillwater School. Please do not be alarmed, as there is no emergency or threat to our school. We ask that you refrain from entering the school during the above times.
We are excited to continue the great partnership that we have with our local law enforcement and appreciate all they do for our school and community. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!

PRESCHOOL NEWS
Happy Spring!
Preschoolers have started a new study about pets and it is keeping them very busy! It may be their favorite topic this year. We have been focusing on the characteristics of pets, where pets live, and how to take care of pets. The new veterinarian and grooming tools in the dramatic play area have given our little learners the chance to role play and experience first hand how to take care of pretend pets in our classrooms! Future Veterinarians of America! As we study pets, we will learn concepts and skills in the areas of literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and the arts. We will also develop thinking skills as we observe, investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas. Sharing stories and pictures of their own pets has been so much fun! Thank you for help and support at home!

FIFTH GRADE ELA
In ELA, we have started our Nonfiction Reading and Writing Unit. We looked at types of nonfiction, structures of nonfiction, how to read a nonfiction text and unlocking meaning in unfamiliar vocabulary. Students will read a variety of nonfiction texts and determine the author’s purpose, main idea, and summarize information learned. We will be extending our learning about nonfiction texts to our writing unit where students will pick a topic to research and write a nonfiction book in google slides using the five different nonfiction text structures we studied while reading.
In Social Studies, we are finishing our study of the American Revolution. Students will learn that after the American Revolution, our nation went through an exciting time of change and growth. We had fought hard for our independence from British rule, and now we were building a brand new country. We established the United States of America with a government based on the ideas of freedom and democracy. Our Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution, which is like a rulebook for how our country should be run. We also added the Bill of Rights, which protects our basic freedoms like speech, religion, and the right to a fair trial. We will also discuss how people expanded westward which created new challenges and opportunities, but the states remained united as one nation under one flag. Students will be able to explain why the American Revolution wasn't just about winning a war; it was about creating a nation where everyone has the chance to pursue their dreams and make a difference.

NEWS FROM MRS. GREEN
Thank you to all the preschoolers who raised money for the Kids Heart Challenge! We exceeded our goal by leaps and bounds. The preschoolers were able to participate in various jumping stations that got their hearts pumping. They were jumping to grab a scarf, jumping over pool noodles, jumping hula hoops and so much more! We were all checking to see if we could feel our hearts beating faster after all the activity.

FOURTH GRADE NEWS
Fourth Grade - I love fourth grade! In math we are multiplying fractions and adding them. I love math! In science we are learning about volcanoes and how the Earth changes! In ELA, we are learning about how to write proper stories and put dialogue, sensory details and other descriptions into our writing. In social studies we are reading plays and dramas and practicing how to read with expression and to be theatrical.
In gym class we are playing different types of games and on Fridays we always do mileage club. In art we are making patterns and designing ice cream cones! In makerspace we are designing eclipse glasses for the solar eclipse in 18 days. In music we are using a website called chrome music and making our own song and rhythms. In health we are learning how to be healthy and stay away from drugs and alcohol! It is very exhausting, but exhilarating, how much we are learning in fourth grade!

PINWHEEL/BUILDING BLOCKS NEWS
Learning about Lunar New Year!
In February, students in grades 1-3 Building Blocks/Pinwheel learned about Lunar New Year! Lunar New Year is celebrated all over the world and our students discovered the cultural traditions that surround this holiday. Each student created their own ‘paper’ lantern based on design criteria and the use of a variety of materials. Students learned about materials that are opaque, translucent, and transparent. They researched design ideas, planned by creating a sketch, chose various materials, and constructed functional paper lanterns. The students did a fantastic job and their lanterns are beautiful and unique!
