Accessing the Amherst Schools Strategic Plan
The Amherst Schools is proud to introduce a new strategic plan that will guide our district over the next three to five years. The strategic plan contains 18 specific objectives under the following five major goal areas:
- Community Connections
- Financial Stability
- Retention & Recruitment
- Quality Facilities
- Student Services & Programs
The full strategic plan can be found on our website under District > About or click on the link below to view the slideshow.
I look forward to seeing the positive impact of our strategic plan as we work together to educate, equip, and empower every student in our district. Thank you for your continued support and partnership!
Chloe Backman, Gifted Advisory Council Member
I am thrilled to share some exciting news about one of our outstanding 4th-grade math teachers, Chloe Backman! I recently learned that Chloe has been accepted as a Gifted Advisory Council Member and will work alongside the state team to develop and enhance gifted services for ODEW. I truly believe that this role aligns perfectly with her passion, as she recently earned her Master’s Degree in Gifted Education.
Thank you to Amherst Literacy Coach Natalie Hostutler for the brief overview of Chloe's two-year term below:
The Gifted Advisory Council explores the development and implementation of state policies that affect identification, instruction, professional support, leadership, and funding for gifted education. The role of the Council includes:
- Assisting in the development and updating of a Department-approved plan for gifted education in Ohio
- Advising on policy recommendations
- Serving as advisors in establishing criteria for review of proposals to implement innovative gifted services
- Establishing criteria for identifying and recognizing schools, districts, and other educational providers
The Gifted Advisory Council meets a minimum of four times per year. Meetings are in-person and held at the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce or other locations around central Ohio.
We are so excited to have Chloe represent Amherst Schools on the ODEW Gifted Advisory Council, and know with great confidence that she will be an asset to their team!

Newborn Visits with The Comet Super & Literacy Coach
Do you know anyone who recently has had a newborn and is an Amherst resident? Let us know! Our Literacy Coach, Breanna Carden, and I would love to stop by with gifts, including a plush teddy bear, a book, and information about subscribing to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five. Our short visit is just a special way to welcome your little Comet into our incredible community!
