Notes from the Leadership Team
Dear Menchaca Families,
I hope you all enjoy a wonderful and relaxing Labor Day holiday! As we head into next week, please note that although it will be a short week, it will also be a busy one. We're excited to welcome our PK grandparents on Friday for a special breakfast with their students. Grandparents are encouraged to bring a breakfast to enjoy together. Due to limited capacity in our cafeteria, this event is reserved for grandparents only.
For our Kinder families, your grandparents' breakfast event is scheduled for Monday, September 9th.
Please continue reading our News from the Nest for more details on these events and others happening this week. Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to seeing our Menchaca grandparents soon!
Regards,
MECC Leadership Team

Notes from the Nurse
If your child has special dietary requirements due to allergies or medical conditions, a special diet packet is required to be filled out by your child's physician. Our cafeteria cannot make substitutions to their meals or foods served at school without this packet filled out by a doctor.
No medications may be sent in student backpacks. This is a safety issue. All medications must have proper forms including an order from a physician and must be given to the nurse directly by an adult.
I have started our yearly vision and hearing screenings. If you receive a referral for a professional eye exam, but your child does not have vision insurance, please contact me.
Are there health and wellness topics or services you'd like to know more about for yourself or your child? Please let me know! I would love to hold informational sessions with local area experts to help our Menchaca community reach full health potential.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child's health, you can reach our nurse at: heather.siebert@southsideisd.org
Don't Forget the Note
Did you know that when a student is absent from school, the student must bring a note signed by the parent/guardian that describes the reason for the absence from school.
Students who arrive after 10 A.M. are considered ABSENT. This does not mean your child should stay home. Staying home will make your student fall behind by missing an entire day of instruction. Students who are picked up prior to the 10 A.M. attendance bell will also be marked absent for the day.
If you pick up a student during the instructional day for an appointment, the student can return the same day with a doctor’s excuse and not be counted absent.
For questions regarding your child's attendance, please contact our PEIMS/Attendance Clerks:
lupita.cabrera@southsideisd.org or meranda.zapata@southsideisd.org
Important Times to Remember
- Morning Drop Off & Breakfast begins at 6:35 A.M.
- Drop-off gates close each morning at 7:10 A.M.
- Students who arrive after 7:10 A.M. are tardy.
- Students must be in class at the 10:00 A.M. attendance bell in order to be marked present.
- Changes to your child’s dismissal routine should be communicated to the front office and your child's teacher no later than 1:00 P.M.
- Student sign-out from the office ends each day at 1:45 PM to prepare for dismissal.
- Dismissal begins at 2:30 P.M. Students must be picked up no later than 3:00 P.M.
Don't Miss That Bus
For all Menchaca bus riders, it is the parent/guardians' responsibility to be at the bus stop to receive their child.
Helpful Tip: If you do miss your child's bus, you can call transportation directly to arrange to meet the bus at an alternate stop.
If a parent/guardian is not present, the child will be returned to the campus. Failure to comply with district bus policies could lead to the loss of bus riding privileges.
You don't ever have to miss the bus again! Use the Southside ISD GPS System to track your child's bus by clicking here
For routing information, please contact the Southside ISD Transportation Dept. at 210-882-1624
