Cedar Reader
Cedar Park Middle School - October 2024
Message from the Principal
Hello Cedar Park Families,
As our Superintendent, Dr. Baldaras, and other district communications have highlighted, our system is experiencing significant change in may areas: enrollment, school schedules, start/end times, transportation, phone policies (and other policies), student advocacy, teacher contract negotiations, and the impact of national climate on our school climates.
Change is hard: no one likes the feeling of unpredictability and uncertainty.
And yet...
As I spend time in classrooms and halls of Cedar Park, I see work happening that demonstrates student learning and growth every day. We are focused on critical actions that lead to progressing student achievement:
- Teams and consistency in communicating/implementing expectations for classroom procedures and student behavior
- Student engagement and movement during core (block) classes
- Fewer students being asked to turn in phones to the office (CPMS implemented a tight cell phone policy 7 years ago).
- Balance of instruction that requires technology versus direct teacher instruction
- Hallway behavior that is fun, safe, and appropriate
- Students engaged in academic work
I am so proud of the work we are doing to best understand and serve your students.
We have conferences scheduled for 10/16 & 10/17. Teachers are preparing data to share your student's assessment scores and how we will work to meet all their needs for extension and intervention.
Thank you for attending. Your engagement is the most critical key to student success.

Answer the Call!
Answer the Call for Beaverton schools!
It’s calling season! Between October 7-15, over 300 Beaverton School District high school students will volunteer their time and energy to reach nearly 20,000 community members during the Beaverton Education Foundation’s annual student-volunteer calling event.
Students participating in Answer the Call enhance and refine communications and marketing skills during all five call nights. These practical life and work skills are a bonus that students and future employers both value.
If you see “Beaverton Education Foundation” on your caller ID in October, please answer the call!
Thanks so much!

Welcome to Cedar Park Middle School Cafeteria!
Dear Cedar Park Families,
Free Meals During the 2024-25 School Year
We are pleased to announce that all students in the Beaverton School District will receive one free breakfast and one lunch each school day during the 2024-25 school year. Enrollment in this program is automatic for every student.
What’s Included?
- Student Meals: Each free meal includes an entrée, fruit and vegetable sides, and a milk. To qualify for the no-cost meals, students must take a complete meal; opting for just milk does not make the meal free. This is a federal requirement designed to encourage a balanced diet.
- A la Carte Items: Additional items, such as extra milk or second entrées, will be available for purchase if students have a positive account balance or cash.
Best regards,
The Cedar Park Middle School Cafeteria Team
To Sick For School?
Hello Cedar Park Community,
Welcome to Fall! Fall is a time of year that we begin to see more transmission of illness both in the community and in our schools.
This is a great time to remember to keep the entire family up to date with school-required vaccines and other recommended vaccines like the flu shot and COVID vaccine. I would also recommend talking to your student about increasing their frequency of proper handwashing. Students can also decrease the spread of illness by choosing to wear a mask at school.
Importantly, if your child is ill, the best place for them is at home. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with Beaverton School District's "Too Sick for School" guidelines.
If your student is ill, please notify the school and let us know what symptoms your child is experiencing. Please contact your health care provider about any serious illness or if you are worried about your child's health.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our community healthy!!
Warmly,
