Jaguar Tales
September 13, 2024
Hello, Jaguar Family!
We hope everyone has had an enjoyable week. This a good time to remind students to continue working hard and trying their best. This coming Friday (9/20) marks the end of a progress reporting time period (progress reports). Teachers are working hard to keep students on track, and students also need to do their part to stay on top of all of their work and deadlines. If students are struggling, they are encouraged to attend tutorials with their teacher(s). Progress reports will be visible in HAC on Sept. 26.
Have a great weekend! Go Jags!

Jaguar Band Celebrates Recent Accomplishments
Last year was quite a successful one for the band department. All three of our performing groups received Sweepstakes at UIL Concert & Sight Reading, which is not easy to do! The Jaguar Band program was only one of two band programs to do so in our region and it hadn't been done on our campus in almost a decade.
Our band directors, Mr. Owen and Mr. Alvarado, decided to send in recordings and apply for a couple of National Awards. The Foundation of Music Education has two categories, The National Wind Band Honors and the Citation of Excellence.
Over 400 bands applied for this nationally. To be in the top winning category, you need to place in the top 25% of bands that send in a recording.
This morning our directors found out that both of our bands were selected in the Winning Categories! We are very happy that our bands have earned National Recognition! Later this year we'll be adding two more banners to the back of our hall to mark the accomplishments of the 23-24 bands.
Much of this success is due to having an amazing Jaguar Family and being under the direction of our amazing band directors, Mr. Pete Alvarado and Mr. Jeff Owen. Way to go!
Welcome, Mrs. Payne!
Please help me welcome our newest addition to the Jaguar Family- our new Art teacher, Mrs. Amy Payne! She started her journey with us on Monday afternoon and we are thrilled to have her join the team!
Mrs. Payne grew up in Roswell, New Mexico and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in Secondary Art Education. She has taught for 29 years in NM and Texas public schools. Mrs. Payne's husband also teaches and coaches in Georgetown, TX. They have 2 grown children and 5 grandkids. She loves spending time with family, friends, and her two dogs "Cowboy" and "Boots." She is thrilled to be a Jaguar at Cedar Valley Middle School.
Welcome, Mrs. Payne!

We look forward to having a crowd to cheer on our sports teams this year!
Expectations for Students at RRISD Events
It's an exciting time to be able to attend extracurricular events in RRISD. We all love it when a crowd shows up to cheer on our teams. Please keep in mind that attending such events comes with expectations. We ask that parents review these expectations with their students before each event.
Be Safe:
Stay SEATED in the bleachers unless going to the restroom or concession stand.
Items prohibited on campus are prohibited at games.
Unsafe behavior such as horseplay, fighting, and running could result in being removed from the event.
Be Respectful:
- Use a voice level and appropriate language. Do not play music from your phone or portable speaker.
- Show school spirit with cheers or applause. Cheer for CeVMS not AGAINST the other team.
- Listen and respond quickly to instructions from adults.
Be Responsible:
Follow guidelines for food & drinks.
Throw away all trash before leaving the stands/gym.
Call for a ride at the end of halftime. If a student is picked up after 15 minutes of the game ending, it may result in loss of privilege to attend the next game/ event.
These expectations apply to all RRISD extracurricular events. We hold high expectations for students as a spectator at Cedar Valley, but even higher ones when you are visiting another gym or stadium in Round Rock ISD.
Please be aware that students may be asked to leave the event if these expectations are not met. This will also result in losing privileges to attend other events for the school year.

This does NOT commit you to anything other than possibly receiving emails when we need help in your areas of interest.
