- The Sunday 9/22 episode of "60 Minutes" contained a segment entitled "The Scourge of Our Times" on the pervasiveness of fentanyl, which kills over 70,000 people a year in the U.S. This is a short and extremely important watch.
- From Harvard University Graduate School of Education, Usable Knowledge: "Students Are Using AI Already. Here's What They Think Adults Should Know": This new report details what teens think parents should know about how they use, or don't use, generative intelligence
- We invite you to share your thoughts in this brief Parent Program Survey by Sept. 30th to enable us to tailor future parent programming to better support families.

This event will raise critical funding for Senior Nutritional Services as well as the Meals on Wheels of Mercer County Pet Pantry - keeping our homebound seniors and their pets healthy, happy & together.
Principal Riley's September "HVCHS Updates"
Parent Advisory Council: The Parent Advisory Council meets regularly with Ms. Riley to provide feedback and discuss school-related topics. Meetings are typically held on a monthly basis at 8:30 a.m. at HVCHS. Each grade level is represented by two parents/guardians. If you are interested in being a grade level representative, please complete the interest form by September 30th.
Safety & Security Reminders: In order to ensure the safety and security of our staff and students, all visitors to HVCHS will be required to show identification upon entering the building. In addition, any individual who signs a student out of the building must be listed in OnCourse with permission for release, or separate written permission must be provided by a parent or guardian. We appreciate your cooperation with these safety and security measures.
PSATs: The PSAT will be administered to all sophomores and juniors on October 9. In order to ensure an optimal testing environment, all freshmen and seniors will have a three hour delayed opening, and will report to school at 10:45 a.m. (with transportation provided for those who typically utilize HVRSD bussing). Additional information will be provided in the upcoming weeks.

*Phillips’ Mill Community Association’s (PMCA) Third Student Playwriting Challenge invites students in grades 7 -12 to submit 10-minute original plays for consideration. Winners’ works will be given staged readings at the Mill.
*Scholarship Opportunity "Voice of Democracy Program"
This Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW’s) premier scholarship program is open to students in grades 9-12 until Oct. 31st. Students compete by writing and recording an audio essay on an annual patriotic theme. Prizes and scholarships are awarded at the Post, District, state, and national levels.

Wellness/Tech-Free Fun Night for Families: Tonight, Friday, Sept 27th 5:30-7pm. The event will start with pizza and snacks in the cafeteria after which students will head to the gym(s) for tech-free games and activities. Parents/Guardians are invited to listen to local experts and to share ideas. These discussions will inform our next steps as we address digital wellness in our school community. All medical paperwork and registration must be completed by November 6th! Anything turned in after that will run the risk of not being cleared on time to start winter sports.

YMCA After School Enrichment Program Fall Session: Click on the link for the programs. The 7-week sessions will begin the week of Oct. 14th and classes will run from 4-5pm. Registration will end on October 4th, so please mark your calendars and sign up before the classes fill up. Classes are held right at the individual schools. YMCA staff will provide supervision from dismissal until the program begins, ensuring a smooth and safe transition for all registered students. Newspaper Club - We are excited to start our fourth and fifth grade newspaper club this year at Hopewell! The newspaper club will meet every last Friday of the month beginning Friday, September 27th, before school from 8:00 - 8:30 am. The Wild Robot” Private Screening - Come celebrate Hopewell Elementary School’s own Peter Brown, as his novel "The Wild Robot" is released as a feature film. Clubs Have Kicked Off! - We have several after and before school opportunities for our "upperclassmen," including Journalism Club (Grade 5), Student Council (Grades 4/5) , Safeties (Grade 5), Festival Ensemble (Grade 5), Art Enrichment (Grade 5), Girls on the Run (Grade 4/5) and Green Team (Grade 4/5).Some have already started and others begin in October.
Picture Day - Tuesday, October 1st is Picture Day. Paper forms were previously sent home - or you can order online here.
Pretzel Day - Sign up to get a soft pretzel delivered to your classroom! Order forms are due by Friday, October 4th. Check your backpacks for paper forms or use this form.

Dismissal Form: If you haven’t done so already, please fill out the TG Dismissal Form 2024-2025. Please indicate what your child's typical dismissal schedule will be throughout the school year. All families must complete one form for each child enrolled at Toll Gate Grammar School this year. If your dismissal plans change on any given day, please email tgmainoffice@hvrsd.org, (this email will go to both main office secretaries, Ashlee Dana and Patricia Jaczko) to inform them of the change. Please also cc' your child's homeroom teacher.
Reporting Student Absences: Please remember to call the Telsafe line 609-737-4008, option 2) by 8:00am for any absences or tardiness. Emails to a teacher may not be seen in a timely manner. Telsafe is the best way to report an absence. If your child is not at school and you haven’t reported them absent or tardy, you will get a phone call from Mrs. Smith, our school nurse.

Hopewell Tour Des Arts, Sat. 9/28th & Sun. 9/29: Local artists’ studio and pop-up art spaces are open to the public. Work from more than 60 artists in the Hopewell area. Free.
YWCA Princeton’s Crafts & Cultures Festival, Paul Robeson Place, Sat. Sept. 28th, 11 am-4 pm, Music and dance performances, food trucks, craft vendors, kids’ activities, and more.
The Princeton Varsity Club will host its PVC Youth Sports Clinic on Sat. Sept. 28th as a part of Future Tigers Day and the Princeton football home opener. The game and accompanying weekend activities are part of the Tigers Together Inclusive Excellence Series – click here to learn more. The clinic is open to the public and will feature sports stations for children ages 5 -12. Please Note: The clinic is free and does not require a game ticket, but we ask that families please register children to attend. Tickets will be required for any fans wishing to enter Princeton Stadium for the football game following the clinic at 3:00p.m.
