Principal Message - Kanika A. Burks
Good Afternoon MCP: Lola Rowe North Families,
Our attendance goal for the year is 93%. We currently have a year to date average of 93.4%; however, our weekly attendance decreased last week to 89.8%. It is important to keep our daily and weekly attendance up so that we can maintain or exceed our year to date average of 93%. Today's attendance was 94.65%! Way to go North Campus!!!
We kicked of National Literacy Month with a Read to Succeed Week! A special SHOUT OUT to one of our amazing grandparents for making bows and bow ties to provide scholars who did not have them on Books, Bows and Bow Ties Day last Friday. Our scholars ended their week reading with their One School One Mission partners! We are encouraging all of our scholars to read at least 30 minutes a day for pleasure this month and beyond!! Are you reading 30 minutes a day? Consider creating a time in the evening when you read with your scholar or when it is quiet reading time in the house for at least 30 minutes.
We will end this week with a Green and Jeans day on Thursday. Thursday is also National Pi Day. Scholars and staff also have the option to wear a shirt with mathematical symbol or a number with their jeans on Thursday too! The choice is yours!!!

TARDINESS
Getting to school on time is a key to your child’s success – at school and in life. At Milwaukee College Prep, the learning begins when scholars walk in the door. Parents/guardians/families must ensure their children are in school on time. scholars who are late often miss essential math and reading instruction, disrupt the learning of other children, and risk falling behind on our ambitious curriculum. We want to teach our scholars the importance of being on time. One of the most common reasons people lose their jobs is persistent tardiness at work. Definition of Tardiness: scholars arriving after 8:00 AM or picked up before 3:10 PM (as measured by the school’s main office clock) are marked tardy.
ABSENCES
Attendance is the first step in ensuring academic achievement. In order for scholars to reach their personal best, they must show up and make their strongest effort at school each and every day. At Milwaukee College Prep, regular attendance is required. Our curriculum is an ambitious one; every day is essential for students to keep pace. Parents/guardians/families are expected to ensure that their children are in school. Please do not allow your child to miss a day of school except for serious illnesses.
Reporting Absences: If a student is absent, the parent/guardian must report the absence to the school office by 9:00 a.m. via phone, through the form on the school website (www.milwcollegeprep.com), or by sending a note with your scholar when he/she returns to school the following day.
All Absences – “Excused” and “Unexcused” – Are Considered Absences:
Any day your child does not attend school is considered an absence.
Parent Notification of Absence
It is your responsibility to contact the school if your child is going to be absent. If your child is not in school and you have not contacted the school, a phone contact will be made to you. If the contact is unsuccessful, the school will attempt to reach you by other means before the end of the second day after receiving a report of an unexcused absence.
Missing School for Appointments: Parents/guardians/families are asked to schedule medical appointments outside of school time. In the case when a student has a medical appointment during school, s/he should not be absent for the entire school day.
A Message from our Chief Education Officer
A Message from Our Chief Academic Officer
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Wisconsin Students in Grades 3rd-8th will be participating in the Forward assessment during the March 18th - April 26th testing window.
The Forward assessment tests students in the areas of Mathematics and English Language Arts. In addition, 4th and 8th graders will be assessed in Social Studies and Science. One or more subtests may be administered daily during the identified time frame and it is very important that your son or daughter be in school during this time. Students not in school on the scheduled testing days will be scheduled for a make-up test prior to the close of the testing window.
Here is an Informational Brochure for Families which gives more information about the assessment including its purpose, what scores will be provided, and how the scores will be used.
The Forward assessment measures the knowledge and skills your student(s) should have acquired by the time they reach each grade level. Their performance on the assessment will not affect any of their current grades. Please encourage your son or daughter to take the test seriously and do the best they can. The results of these tests will be used to help school staff make determinations or placement in classes to best support your child(ren).
If you have any questions, please contact Amber Aulozzi at amber.aulozzi@milwcollegeprep.com.
