A Word About Internships
You may have heard of the term Internship, but do you know what they are and why they’re important?
An internship is a temporary job or work experience that allows you to learn about a particular career. Internships can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months and can be paid or unpaid.
They are a great way to gain practical experience and skills that can help you decide what career path you may want to pursue in the future.
Benefits of Internships
Gain real-work experience. Having practical experience will help you stand out in the job market.
Build your network. Getting to know professionals in your field of interest opens the door to more opportunities.
Explore different careers. This is a chance to sample different careers to find the right fit for you.
Develop soft skills. Improving communication, teamwork and problem solving are valuable skills you’ll learn that you can apply to any career.
Steps you can take to land an Internship
Attend Lunch and Learn sessions. These sessions are hosted by the Work-Based Learning Coordinator who shares actionable steps you can take while you’re a high school student.
Attend Career Fairs. Career Fairs are offered in our high schools and are often open to all students county-wide. Ask your career advisor where and when the next career fair will be held.
Meet with your Career Advisor. Talk about fields that you are interested in and opportunities available. Access the appointment calendar at: https://bit.ly/CHSBoyle.
Now is a good time to start thinking about internships. Plan ahead by exploring your interests and gaining valuable experience through internships.
Technology
Having trouble with a student laptop? If you are having software issues or password issues, requests can be sent directly to the IT HelpDesk at helpdesk@calvertnet.k12.md.us. If a student is having hardware issues, broken screen, laptop will not turn on, etc., see Ms. Mignardi in the library
