D91 Update Sept 13, 2024
From Superintendent Karla LaOrange
Superintendent's Message
Our school year is off to an amazing start! Teachers have been working collaboratively to implement the D91 Intervention Model, ensuring that each student gets the support they need to succeed. Our students are hard at work, eager to learn and grow, while our teams and clubs are already buzzing with great activities. In elementary schools, there’s a strong focus on building reading and writing skills. Behind the scenes, the D91 Technology, Transportation, Child Nutrition, and Maintenance Departments are working tirelessly to ensure everything runs smoothly, so your child can thrive.
The Importance of School Attendance
One of the key factors in helping your child succeed is regular school attendance. Studies consistently show that students who attend school regularly achieve higher academic levels, starting from kindergarten all the way through high school graduation. Poor attendance can impact a child's ability to read proficiently by third grade, and research indicates that attendance is closely linked to graduation rates. When students improve their attendance, their chances of graduating and reaching their full potential increase significantly.
Even missing just two days of school per month can negatively affect academic performance. Of course, we understand that if your child is sick, they need to stay home to rest and recover. Their health is essential for both them and our school community.
Thanks to dedicated parents like you, nearly every D91 school has seen improvements in student attendance. Let’s keep up the great work and continue supporting our students to help them grow, succeed, and graduate. Together, we can make a lasting difference for every child in our district!
Thank you for your continued support!
Have a great weekend!
Superintendent Karla LaOrange
Keeping up is Easier than Catching up
Help your student build relationships, establish healthy routines and safeguard early learning by focusing on regular attendance.
Did you know?: Even one or two absences every two weeks can affect a learner’s ability to gain reading and math skills and build social relationships. Helping them show up to learn is the best way to give them a solid foundation to build on.

Eighth graders from both Eagle Rock and Taylorview Middle Schools got the chance this week to see the "Tunnels to Towers" mobile exhibit at The Waterfront. It was a great opportunity for our students to get an up close look at what happened on September 11, 2001 and how it still impacts us today. Thank you to Heroes Defense for making this possible.
