BES Principal Newsletter

Good evening BES families!
Byron Elementary is a schoolwide title school meaning our federal title funds are used for any student at any time during the year. We assess all students three times a year using a universal screener as well as benchmark and diagnostic tests. When a student shows a deficiency our title teachers work with the classroom teacher and the family to quickly address the deficiency in a small group setting. Family-School Compacts will be sent home this Friday. Please sign the compact and have your student sign their space and return to school. Classroom teachers will sign these and make a copy to give families at November conferences. A compact does not give permission to see title teachers. Permission slips and conversations regarding being pulled for title support will be made directly by title teachers.
Our districtwide focus on attendance kicked off this past Wednesday at our SOARing ticket assembly. Any student who has be present more than 90% of the year, was placed in an additional drawing for a book coin or prize. "Students who missed fewer than 2 days in September continued to average fewer than 2 days absent each month." (Attendance Matters) PowerSchool generated emails to all families who have missed more than 10% of school will be coming soon to families. This email DOES NOT differentiate between excused or unexcused absence. It takes total number of days a student was NOT in school and calculates a percentage. If the percentage is 10% or more, a family will receive an email. Please reach out to Mrs. Johnson if you are experiencing obstacles in getting your student to school.
Thank you for a wonderful first six week of school! We are so proud of our Eagles and the growth they've shown in the first 24 days of school.
Educationally Yours,
Mrs. Johnson
