Dear Godwin Heights Parents and Guardians,
This past week, we focused on Respect – the "R" in Godwin PRIDE, and our students showed their enthusiasm in so many ways! The Student Council hosted a fantastic dance on Friday night, wrapping up a fun-filled Spirit Week. It was great to see our students enjoying themselves and showing their school spirit!
In addition, a small group of our 8th-grade students showcased their National History Day projects at Grand Valley State University this weekend. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication!
Several of our students also participated in WIDA testing for English Language Proficiency this past week. Their focus and perseverance during testing were commendable, and we are proud of their efforts.
Looking ahead, this coming week we will be focusing on Integrity – the "I" in Godwin PRIDE. As a reminder, I will be hosting a Parent Focus Group on Wednesday night (March 19th) at the high school to discuss middle school course offerings and areas for growth. Parent voice is invaluable, and I would love to see a strong turnout for this important conversation.
Thank you for your continued support!

School News
In the Art Room
Our students (ASD, 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade) have been hard at work in the art room, exploring ceramics through two exciting projects:
Themed Pinch Pots: Students began by learning essential clay techniques and rules while creating pinch pots based on a theme of their choice. From animals to mythical creatures, each pot showcases creativity, craftsmanship, and individual expression!
Cultural Coil Bowls: For their second project, students researched a culture—either their own or one they found interesting—and designed a coil bowl incorporating at least three key cultural elements. Whether inspired by traditional patterns, symbols, or colors, each piece is a meaningful representation of cultural appreciation and artistic skill!
Literacy Night Success
We can’t thank our Godwin community enough for the time, energy, and enthusiasm at our Literacy Night Wednesday, March 12th! A special shoutout to our Secondary English, Social Studies, and Special Education teachers for leading the charge and making the evening such a success.
It was amazing to see families engaging with the interactive stations the staff created. These events go beyond promoting literacy - they strengthen the relationships between students, families, and our school community. Everyone's involvement in bringing reading, writing, and content-area activities to life truly make a difference!
Thursday, March 27: Student Choice Lunch
Students get to taste recipes and vote on favorite food stations they want in their cafeteria. Click the link to read more!
Daily Tutoring
Dear Parents/Guardians,
*There will be no tutoring Wednesday, March 19*
We appreciate your continued support of our after-school tutoring program as we work to provide additional academic support for our students. We wanted to share a few important updates regarding the program:
- Permanent Tutoring List: We are currently utilizing 88% of our available tutoring space. To ensure we are prioritizing students who need the most support, we will begin removing students from the permanent list if they have Cs or higher in all their classes. Additionally, moving forward, any student added to the permanent list must be approved by the course proficiency team.
- Daily Sign-Ups Still Available: All students will still have the opportunity to sign up for tutoring during advisory each day if space is available.
- Attendance Expectations: To ensure students receive the full benefit of tutoring, we ask that they arrive on time and stay for the full session unless previously arranged.
- Pick-Up Procedures: Students will be released from tutoring classrooms at 3:15pm. Please plan to pick up students near the main office entrance off of Wexford.
- Please remind your student to bring necessary materials, including assignments or classwork they may need help with.
- If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to durga@godwinschools.org or kathryn.golden@godwinschools.org.
Thank you for your partnership in supporting student success!
