Important Updates from the Lawrence Office
Dear Lawrence parents and caregivers,
While this is technically an "off week," for our Linked "In" newsletter, this week is so busy that I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the events scheduled. Please, review this week's calendar CLOSELY! And, reach out to the office, the person listed below, or your child's teacher if you have any questions about these events! We are looking forward to seeing many of you this week!
Sincerely,
Vanessa Bilello (she/her)
Principal, Lawrence School

School Council Elections
School Council - Parents/Caregivers & Community Members Needed!
It is time for the biennial elections for the Lawrence School Council! The Lawrence School Council is a state mandated structure made up of parents/caregivers and Lawrence staff. We are charged with reviewing and updating the School Improvement Plan, reviewing our handbook and addressing other issues that impact the school community. It is a great way for adults in the community to become involved in the work of our school.
We are looking for 3 parent/caregivers (as well as 1 "community member"), starting in October of this year, to join this team. This is a 2 year term. The council meets five times, during the school year. We will have our first meeting on October 24, 2024. Meetings will take place from 8:15-9:15 AM in a hybrid (zoom/in person options) format. This is a volunteer position and consists of only 5 one-hour meetings each year, so it is not a huge ask. If needed, the PTO will be helping us in coordinating elections, which will be held week of September 30th. Please consider getting involved!
If you are interested in being a member, please write me a proposal as to why you would like to be a member and what contributions you can make to support the council and the school as a whole. This proposal does not have to be lengthy - just an email expressing interest is okay! If there are more than three proposals, the PTO is mandated to run an election.
Please send all proposals to Vanessa Bilello by this Friday, September 27th, 2024.
Dear Grade 7th and 8th Grade Student-Athletes and Families,
As shared in a previous communication from the office, we are excited to announce that we will be offering volleyball to any 7th and 8th grade students who would like to try out. Just like last year we will have a boys team and a girls team. The teams will compete against the other Brookline Public Schools. In order to be eligible to try out students must complete the following two steps:
1. Complete this sign-up form: Volleyball Sign-up
2. Submit a copy of a current physical exam unless the nurses at the school already have one.
3. Complete the concussion course (see sign up link for details).
Note regarding physical exams: Physical exams must be current within the past thirteen months and be signed by the physician. If a student’s physical expires during the season, they will not be allowed to play until a current one is received.
Important Dates:
Monday, September 23rd-Thursday, September 25th: Week of tryouts:
- Monday 9/23 / Thursday 9/26 - Boys Team Tryouts (2:45PM Large Gym)
- Tuesday 9/24 /Wednesday 9/25 - Girls Team Tryouts (2:45PM Large Gym)
