At Whitney, Every School Day Matters
We know winter presents unique challenges for getting children to school, and that includes illnesses. Here are some tips for helping children stay healthy:
- Maintain a regular bedtime and morning routine.
- Ensure your children visit their medical provider and have received their vaccines.
- Stress hand washing, particularly before and after eating, and after using the restroom.
- Reinforce the importance of avoiding close contact with individuals who are sick, and not sharing cups and/or utensils with others.
- If your children seem anxious about going to school, please reach out to your child's teacher, our school counselor, or an administrator so we can help. We want your child to feel comfortable and excited about learning.
- If you aren't sure if your child should stay home from school, please reach out to our health office for advice at 208-854-6590

Kindergarten Registration is Almost Here
Boise School District Kindergarten Registration is right around the corner! Families with a child who is five years old on or before September 1, 2025, are invited to Whitney (or their neighborhood school) on Thursday, March 6th between 3:45 and 5:30 PM to register for the 2025-2026 school year. You will meet teachers and staff, visit a kindergarten classroom, explore summer learning opportunities, and learn how to prepare your child for full-day kindergarten.
Parents/guardians should bring the following to registration:
- the child's birth certificate
- immunization records
- proof of address (pay stub, copy of rental or lease agreement, or a utility bill)
If you have questions, please contact the Whitney office at 208-854-6580. You can also get more information at the Boise School District Kindergarten Registration Site.
Wolverine Walkers Needs Volunteers!
Thank you so much to the parents who have volunteered to help at Whitney Walkers! The Whitney walking club, Wolverine Walkers, happens every Wednesday during lunch recess. Students and staff are invited to walk the Whitney path to earn cool prizes. We could use additional volunteers to scan the walkers' badges as they complete laps. If you can spare thirty minutes (or more) on a Wednesday, please sign-up. This is an easy and fun way to volunteer at Whitney and see your student at recess.

Birthday Celebrations
We love having our birthday students announced each week and watching them select books from our Birthday Book Cart! Students with February and July birthdays will receive a treat as they head to lunch on Friday, February 21st.
*We will no longer accept birthday treats or goodie bags for class birthday celebrations. This will help us celebrate every student and ensure we’re following BSD Board policy.
Lunch Club
Our Community School Coordinator, Mrs. Anderson, offers a variety of activities as an alternative to going outside during our Lunch Club. On days when Lunch Club is offered, students in first through sixth grades can spend half of their lunch recess in the Community School's room engaged in an activity and then head outside for some fresh air. Last month, students played with play-dough and board games, learned card tricks, and participated in hip-hop dance lessons taught by Artistic Dance Company. If your child enjoyed hip-hop, please see the flyer below about a free dance class!
Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to be inspired and motivated! Join us at South Junior High on March 4th from 6-7pm for an unforgettable talk from Brad Montague, the producer of Kid President and a New York Times bestselling author. Brad has a unique perspective on how we, as adults, can better support the kids in our community. His message is not only impactful, but also entertaining and full of humor, making it a must-see event for all parents.
Whether you're a parent, guardian, or community member, Brad's insights will leave you feeling empowered and ready to make a positive difference in the lives of the young people around you. Childcare will be available. For more details or to RSVP, please see the flyer. We look forward to seeing you there!
