UPCOMING EVENTS
Job For A Day ~ 11th and 12th Grade Students
The LCPS Job for a Day (JFD) program is a career exploration activity providing an opportunity for 11th-12th grade students to shadow in-person an individual(s) or business/organization. The experience allows the student to learn/observe the tasks and responsibilities necessary in a particular career cluster, field or specific job. Hosts exhibit how the characteristics of the LCPS Profile of a Graduate are demonstrated in a workplace of a student's choice: Contributing, Collaborating, Communicating, Critical Thinking, and Creating!
Job for a Day will take place on Monday, November 6 (and November 6 and 8 at INOVA Loudoun). Registration will take place in SchooLinks from October 16-27 (and October 23-27 for INOVA Loudoun). Students must provide their own transportation. Parent/guardians will also need to complete this Permission Click.

HOBY Youth Leadership Seminar for 10th Grade Students
Interest in developing your leadership skills? HOBY Leadership Seminars are highly interactive programs that allow students to discover leadership from a personal, group and socially responsible perspective. This year, Independence High School can select two sophomore Student Ambassadors to participate at James Madison University from May 31 - June 2, 2024. Students can expect to build a network of positive community change-makers and a wider network of HOBY Alumni. After each seminar, HOBY alumni are challenged to complete 100 hours of community service within the next year to put their passion and newly built leadership skills into action.
If you'd like to be considered to represent Independence complete this form by November 27th. There is a cost of $275 to participate in the HOBY Youth Leadership Seminar.

Career Conversations
As we schedule our programming in the Career Center for this school year, I plan to highlight one or two careers per month with speakers from our parent community.
I'm looking for 10 - 12 Independence High School parents who would be interested in spending 45 minutes - 1 hour discussing your careers, the pros and cons of your roles, and what types of skills / education are necessary. Please send me an email if you're interested, and can work out specific dates, times, and presentation information.

Military life isn’t always predictable, and sometimes a military spouses’ education and career journey isn’t either. But it’s about to get a little easier.
How To Register For an Event in SchooLinks
Log into your SchooLinks account.
From your Dashboard, click on the tab at the top titled School Events. You will then see a chronological list of all events happening in our building.
Select the event you’d like to register for. Once selected, you will click on the button that says Register For This Event.
Once you register for an event, the button should change and you should see a Reminders tab appear at the top. Here, you can see all the events you are registered for. And, of course, you can still click on an event to see the info popup once again.
As a reminder, only students are able to register for these College & Military Visits.
