Principal's Note Principal's Note

October has been an eventful month at Rimrock, and it is a great time for an update on all that has been happening and is still coming up!

Highlights from the last month included our Homecoming week celebrations, which entailed hallway decorations, tailgating, dress-up days, a pep-rally, and macho volleyball. Homecoming ended with a dominant victory for our football team over Wilder, as well as an outstanding dance organized by the 10th graders at the Grand View Community Center. We also had a highly successful home Cross-Country meet, the Rusty Fender, which took a huge team effort led by Mrs. Raymond. Mr. Dygert led a team of Ag students to the State Soils Competition in Burley, ID. Future Hispanic Leaders of America, accompanied by Mrs. Araujo and Mrs. Pearson, attended their annual summit at Boise State last week, where our students earned many scholarships. Mrs. Ellis took the band on a field trip to the Division III Marching Band competition at BSU. And today we hosted a Sources of Strength kickoff and training event, during which 44 students participated in a thought-provoking and fun 1/2 day of training that prepared them to be peer leaders and enhanced both their personal resilience and their ability to contribute to a positive school culture for Rimrock (see below for more info on Sources of Strength).

There is also a lot to look forward to. Tomorrow night (Tuesday, 29 October) we will be having Powderpuff football under the lights at 7 PM. Because our last home football game was cancelled (other team didn't have enough players), we will also be doing Senior Night to recognize our Football and Cross-Country seniors beforehand at 6:45 PM. On Thursday, 31 Oct, Future Hispanic Leaders of America will be hosting a cultural event at the end of the day for Dia de los Muertos. Then on Saturday (2 November) at 2:30 PM, our boys Cross-Country team will be competing at the State Championship meet at Eagle Island State Park. Finally, our Football team won their conference for the season and will be playing Butte County in the State playoff quarterfinals on 7 November at 5:00 PM at Butte County HS in Arco.

It is an exciting time at Rimrock, and we are thankful for the many contributions you and your students make to the high-quality educational experience we strive to deliver here.

Sources of Strength (SoS) is a nationally-recognized, evidence-based program that provides training and curriculum to promote a strength-based, upstream (preventative) approach to mental health and suicide prevention. It leverages a range of best practices to create healthy school culture by increasing wellbeing, normalizing help-seeking, promoting resiliency, and a fostering a sense of belonging. While its foundational mission is to prevent adverse outcomes like suicide, violence, bullying, and substance abuse, the tools and means by which Sources of Strength programs accomplish these goals includes fun, exciting activities where students connect with one another across grades, peer groups, and interests. These form a foundation of trust so students can have authentic and meaningful conversations with both each other and adult mentors about the challenges they face and how they can rely on their sources of strength to overcome them.

The SoS mentors at Rimrock are Mrs. Waterlander, Mrs. Pearson, and Mrs. Araujo, and they are supported a state SoS facilitator, who visits Rimrock several times throughout the year to conduct training and provide additional support to students.

We are excited to continue to grow the SoS program at Rimrock as we seek to instill our students with the character and grit to be successful in both school and life.
