Dear Rockwell PTO and Families

I wanted to provide an update on the Outdoor Learning Classroom project. After meeting with your PTO in March a list of additional items were provided and a discussion was had on the order of which items should be included in the project should we have additional funding. After conversations with the Contractor and our landscape architect we were able to include almost all of the items presented. This also includes adding 8’ of additional gravel below the play area to secure the drainage that was an issue of concern brought up in the March meeting.

The following items will be incorporated into the project

• Boulder seating

• Stepping stones

• Circular paver entry

• Prepping of the flower bed area so that volunteers in collaboration with Thrive Outside can plant a garden in the new play area.

The School Committee approved this contract change on June 9, 2025 which means we will be able to move forward with starting construction in the beginning of July. We will continue to send updates as the project progresses.

The new contract total for Daponte for the Rockwell outdoor learning classroom is $149,666.
