A Message from Mrs. Pender
It has been a true honor and a great pleasure to serve the students, families, and the broader community of Coosa Elementary since my journey began here in 1999. When I first stepped into the role of a relatively new teacher, I could not have envisioned that I would remain at Coosa for all these years, creating countless memories and building lasting relationships.
As we approach the end of this school year, I wanted to share an important update with you. I will be transitioning into a new position within the district. This change brings with it a mix of excitement and nostalgia, as I reflect on the incredible experiences.
In light of this transition, I want to emphasize the significance of your input regarding the selection of our new principal. Your opinions and perspectives are invaluable, and I genuinely want to ensure that your voice is heard during this process. Therefore, I kindly request that you take a moment to share your thoughts by clicking on the link below prior to Wednesday, March 26.
To ensure a well-rounded and representative selection process, our School Improvement Council (SIC) Chair and the Teacher of the Year will serve as two members of the interview committee. The district is committed to taking the feedback you provide seriously, and they will utilize it to formulate one or more questions that will be posed by the committee during interviews. Faculty and staff members will also contribute their insights in a similar manner.
Your participation in this survey is vital, and I encourage you to make your voice heard as we embark on this new chapter for Coosa Elementary. Thank you for your continued support and engagement in our school community.
River of Words
Today the students who were published in the annual edition of The River of Words were given a copy of the book that features their original artwork and poetry. We are so, so proud of these incredibly talented students. Their work is currently hanging for all to see at the Port Royal Sound Foundation’s Maritime Center!
✈️🗺️Passport Project Cultural Day March 14, 2025🗺️✈️
Last week, students visited Turkey (pre-k), Nigeria (kindergarten), Colombia (1st), Morocco (2nd), Honduras (3rd), Venezuela (4th), and Peru (5th). Check out the video below of our day!
Bus 262 safety
This week, we began running two routes for bus 262. The number of bus riders is within the legal capacity. However, with three students sitting in almost all seats and the increased noise level, we have made the decision to run two routes. Currently, 35 students reside at Harbor One Apartments. The bus driver will continue to drop off those students and return to pick up the remaining students. The bus has been leaving the school for the second run no later than 3:02 daily which is about 7 minutes later than it typically leaves. Please know that the safety of our students remains a priority for us.
Rising 6th Grade Coosa Parents Information Night
Join the educators at LIMS for an informational night about middle school for your rising 6th grade student! The event starts at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25. We hope to see our 5th grade families attend!

Habits for a Happy Home
Synergize - Valuing Teamwork
This week, we continue with Synergize by practicing group problem-solving. At home, involve your child in a family decision, such as choosing a vacation destination or deciding on a family activity. Encourage everyone to share their ideas and come to a consensus. Guide your child in understanding that by collaborating, the family can make better decisions together. This helps them see the value of teamwork in achieving positive outcomes.
iReady Spring Testing
Below are the dates for our iReady Spring Testing for Grades 3-5. Please have students come to school prepared to do their best and show all they have learned. We also ask that you help us remind them to bring their charged laptops.
- Reading – Tuesday, April 1
- Math – Tuesday, April 8
Messaging - Contact Information
Please ensure your family’s contact information is up to date. If you have moved, have a new phone number, or need to update a student’s emergency contact(s), please contact Mrs. Tyson at 843-322-6100 or nichelle.mcewen-tyson@beaufort.k12.sc.us.
Lost & Found
Coosa's Lost & Found is overflowing! Please stop by the office so you can search for your child's items and/or remind your child to search the Lost & Found for their missing items. Thank you for attention to this matter.
