DIGI KNOW...
Screen Time
Many children today spend much of their time in front of a screen. This may include television, computer, tablet, and phone screens. In some cases, too much screen time can lead to issues such as the following:
- poor sleep
- lower reading scores
- obesity
- violent behavior
Although students can benefit from using screens for educational purposes, sometimes family dynamics are adversely affected by an over abundance of recreational screen time.
The following are tips to help your family reduce the amount of time spent in front of a screen.
- Turn off electronic devices during meals. Use this tie to engage in family conversations.
- Keep electronics out of bedrooms. This will help improve sleep.
- Limit the amount of recreational screen time to less than two hours each day.
- Choose certain days or times of the day to be screen free.
- Designate technology free areas of your home.
