KINDERGARTEN & 3RD GRADE READING BUDDIES
A NOTE FROM MRS. B
Howdy Bronco Family! Fall has officially made it to Meadow…in the mornings at least. Fortunately (or unfortunately if you love sweater weather) the afternoons still warm up quite a bit. Please continue to dress your child for our ever-changing weather. Also, if your child is missing a hoodie, jacket, or coat, please remind them to check the office. It very possibly was turned in there.
All the students are anticipating all the upcoming holidays. Things do get busy here with UIL, practicing for the Christmas program, hosting the annual basketball tournament. We have many things going on outside the classroom. This is also the time of year that students may lose focus, not want to work, and maybe even push boundaries. Please continue to remind your child that school is still going on and there is work still to be done and to continue to work hard. While we can definitely have some fun, the teachers are still working hard in the classrooms preparing your child for the future.
Remember, you can always find the latest Meadow ISD news on the MISD website and Facebook page, so go check them out! Also, check your kiddo’s backpack and folders for any important paper notes that may have gone home.
Don’t forget to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is going on in the classroom. We are always here to help.
It’s ALWAYS great to be a Bronco!

MRS. ALANIZ - 2ND GRADE
Super second grade!
It's almost Thanksgiving break! I know I have said this a million times, but this year is just flying by. I am so proud of everything these kiddos are accomplishing both in and outside of the classroom. They are wonderful students and have proven to be great athletes and cheerleaders as well. This week we have been hard at work using text evidence to support our responses and identifying main idea. In math we have started two-digit plus two-digit addition. In social studies our focus has been public officials and their roles. We had a fun science lesson this week with Mrs.Estes and are currently waiting for the results! Thank you for all you do!

Spelling/Vocabulary
Our words this week are high frequency words. High frequency words are words that students will encounter often. Sometimes they are decodable and follow regular spelling patterns, sometimes they just have to be memorized. This week we have decodable high frequency words. As well as being able to spell the words, students are learning how to identify the rules and patterns and the word meanings. Please help your child study each week ready for a test on Friday.
AR Reading
All students must read every evening for at least 20 minutes. Reading regularly builds the vocabulary needed for your child to be successful in class.
Reading
This week we are using our "Comp-A-Day" reading program. Comp-A-Days are great mini passage that students can use to practice the reading strategies they have learned using Lonestar. We are also using "Fast Focus" for mini language and grammar lessons and to apply revising and editing skills. We will finish the week with another STAAR level passage for students to complete independently. You may see a change in grades as students transition from group and teacher centered activities to working more independently.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
A big thank you to all the parents that have visited with Mrs. Houchin and me recently and I look forward to visiting with more parents soon.
Thank you!
Mrs. McCormick
¡Gracias!
Sra. McCormick

MS. GAMEZ -5TH GRADE
4th & 5th Grade Math
-In 4th grade, we are working on Financial Literacy. We are learning about banks and other financial institutions, fixed and variable expenses, and ways to save. After, this chapter we will go to adding and subtracting fractions with same common denominators.
-In 5th grade, we are wrapping up dividing with decimals and then we will go on to work with fractions. In 5th grade, it gets more challenging because they need to get common denominators before adding and subtracting, and learn to multiply and divide fractions. These things were not done in 4th grade. They will also need to learn to simplify fractions if they did not get it in 4th grade or struggled with their multiplication math facts.
-All students need to practice their multiplication math facts every night for a few minutes, either with their flashcards or on a game on their tablets or phones. I could see the difference when we were working on long division who knows their multiplication math facts and who does not know them because they do not struggle or shut down.
-Next week is UIL. I will send more detail information on date, event times and traveling times to go and come for my teams on classroom DOGO.
Thank you for your support.
Stacy Gamez
