Grades 1, 3, 5 - Vision Screening
The Screening will be held Thursday, December 5
Impaired vision can drastically impact a student’s ability to learn. During the 24-25 school year, District 196 nurses have partnered with Phillips Eye Institute and District LSN Coaches to conduct free, routine vision screening for all 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students. While the vision screener used is capable of screening for numerous vision deficits, this is only a screening and is not a diagnosis. Screening each student takes only a few seconds and is performed from a distance of about three feet. No eye drops are administered. Students will be screened with their corrective lenses on (glasses or contacts) if they have them.
If the student does not pass the screening, a vision referral letter will be sent home recommending further examination by an eye professional. No notice will be provided if the student passes. If you do not want your child screened or you have questions, please contact your child’s school nurse, Melissa O'Laughlin at 952-431-8794.
