The Weekly Update #4
December 1st, 2024
Message from Mrs. McEntire
We had a busy month in November. One of the highlights was watching the kids run in the Turkey Trot. It was so simple, put some great music on a speaker, give students tickets, and watch them run, laugh, and enjoy being outside on a beautiful day. We also have some amazing gobblers at our school! Our teachers enjoyed their "trot and strut" on the red carpet as well. As we culminate our November activities, it has been appropriate to reflect on the goodness of those at Orchard Hills. Our teachers and other student support staff are amazing and dedicate so much of themselves to all students. Our other employees including, custodial, lunch, secretaries and technicians make it possible for all of us to do what we need to do each day for students. It really is a magical combination of great people, and we are so grateful for them. When you add that with amazing students and parents, it sure creates a culture of teamwork and learning. Thanks to everyone for what they do "for the student." We have a busy December coming up! We have a lot of learning to do this month. Please review the following information to support you as you coordinate your activities as well.
DECEMBER EVENTS
ACADIENCE TESTING
Starting December 2-19 we will begin administering our middle of year Acadience testing in reading and math. While this looks different in each grade, it is basically a 3-6 minute reading, or reading concept assessment that is done 1:1 with a technician. This is a state mandated test. If you know your child is going to be absent, please notify their teacher so we can make sure this test is given prior to the absence. We appreciate your support with this. For more details on these assessments, you can refer to the Parent Handbook under assessments.
