Canaan Middle School Update
May 12, 2023
Principal Corner
Canaan Families,
May is full of many end-of-year activities and excitement as students start to prepare for taking the next step in their educational journey. The last few weeks have been full of 6th-grade scheduling meetings for the Junior High, 6th grade Camp, 5th-grade STEM activities, our 4th/5th-grade tour, and many more activities. It was great to see students engaged in fun and educational experiences. This week's newsletter contains pictures of the most recent events like our 5th-grade STEM challenges and 6th-grade camp.
Last week the Canaan Alumni donated a rock that was placed by the Canaan playground. This was a year-long process of working with our current student council to come up with an educational saying that helps represent our building. Together, both groups landed on the phrase "Coming together to learn and grow" to represent the two elementary school buildings coming together for the first time at Canaan Middle School. It was truly a great experience to work with the Canaan Alumni on this project. They also made a donation to Canaan Middle School to help upgrade our courtyard. We will start this process next year with a collaboration between our students and different groups in the community. We can't wait to see how this project turns out!

High School Athletic Department Update - Summer Camps
As summer approaches, we all look forward to getting a break from the school day routine, one thing we all look forward to is our Pioneer Summer Youth Camps. Most of our sports teams will be hosting a Youth Camp this summer, and whether you are a parent or student, summer camp is one thing both groups look forward to. With that said, our hope is to make your registration, and information source simple and easy to navigate. New this year, we are running all registrations for our Youth Summer Sports Camps through a website where all camps can be found in one location. That website is alderathletics.com and a link is listed below. In addition, you can also navigate to our summer camps website through the Athletic Boosters website at jaboosters.com and click on Team Camps & Fundraisers.
What you will find with our new website is that all of our camps are in one location, and the online registration process is quick and easy. You can register and pay online, so everything is completed with a one stop shop and it keeps you from having to mail, drop off, or send in a registration with your student. Most of our teams Summer Youth Camps are live now, so please check out our website and get your children signed up for multiple sports camps. If you need any help in navigation of the website, registration, making a payment, or have any questions please feel free to call us in the Athletic Office at 614-873-4642. We look forward to seeing your kids at our Pioneer Youth Summer Camps and ask you to visit the website soon to get them registered.

A Message from our School Nurse
Per Ohio law, all students entering 7th grade will be required to have one dose of Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) vaccine and one dose of meningococcal conjugate (MCV4) vaccine prior to entry.
Please make arrangements to obtain these immunizations prior to the start of the 2023-2024 school year if your student has not already received them. You may fax records to Jonathan Alder Junior High at 614-873-0845.
You can schedule with your family healthcare provider if they offer immunizations. Madison County Public Health and Plain City Druggist also carry the vaccines.
You may direct any questions or concerns to Tia Rutherford (district nurse) at rutherti@japioneers.org
