Student Council Spirit Week!
Congratulations First LEGO League Team!
The Center School First LEGO League Team had another successful season! Our students trained over the past two months with coach Cindy Driscoll, as the season culminated with a competition at Old Lyme High School. Congratulations to all and thank you to Coach Driscoll.
Book Fair
We had another successful book fair at Center School! Thank you to Ms. Sawyer and the many adults who supported our students shopping throughout the week. Funds made during the book fair will go directly back to our library and support purchasing high interest texts for our students.
Chess Club
Mr. Mangiafico has taken on his largest group yet! Students love the opportunity to challenge peers over a game of chess and enjoy some great snacks as well.
Veterans Day Recognition Video
It is always an honor and a pleasure to create this video for the community. Thank you!
Lions Club Vision Screening
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The East Hampton Lions Club has offered to do vision screenings for the Center School again this year. They will be screening grades 4 and 5.
Volunteers from the Lions Club will use the latest vision technology, the WelchAllyn Spot. The WelchAllyn Spot looks almost like a camera; it focuses in on the eyes and in seconds will give a result. The WelchAllyn Spot will screen for common vision issues including nearsightedness, farsightedness, blurred vision, unequal refractive power, lazy eye, and eye misalignment. We are very lucky to have the Lions Club screen our students with this state-of-the-art equipment; it’s exciting!
Confidentiality will be maintained with Lions Club volunteers. They will not keep any student data and will not learn student names. Each child will be given a unique number and after the health office is given the results, the number will be cross-referenced with a list kept by the school nurse. Print-out results will be given to the school nurse. Parents will receive a copy if results are outside normal limits or by parent request.
If you would like to OPT OUT of this screening with the WelchAllyn Spot, please call or email me. The Lions Club is planning to be doing the vision screenings in Monday November 25th.
Please do not hesitate to call or email with any questions.

Gratitude Tree
November is the month of gratitude, and we are working to reflect on what we are grateful for at Center School and in our personal lives. Mrs. Cote shared the idea of the gratitude tree with staff to put this practice into action and add to the beautification of Center School!
Congratulations to our PRIDE!
Principal Transition
As Mr. Moore prepares to transition into the role of Interim Principal on December 2nd, we continue to meet as a leadership team with Mr. Moore and Central Office members to ensure a smooth transition. The process of filling the fourth grade teaching position is underway as well. We will keep you updated through this process of transition.
This will be my last Chronicle! I hope this communication has provided a peek into all of the wonderful happenings at Center School. Weekly communication will be taken over by Mr. Moore after the Thanksgiving break.
Attendance Matters!
If a student has four unexcused absences in one month or 10 unexcused absences in a year they are classified as truant. If a child misses 18 or more days in a school year – excused or unexcused absences – the student is classified as chronically absent.
Access to the East Hampton attendance policy is available HERE
Email process for reporting an absence:
To increase the ease of reporting an absence and documenting parent approval of the absence for a student’s first 9 absences, the East Hampton Public Schools has created email addresses that parents can use to contact their student’s school and report an absence. Effectively immediately, the following email addresses can be used by parents to report and document their approval of an absence:
- Memorial_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
- Center_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
- EHMS_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
- EHHS_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
If you have successfully emailed the school, you will receive an autoreply that notifies you that the absence communication has been received and recorded. This process is effective for your student’s first 9 absences. After your student has more than 9 absences, additional documentation or communication will be required to excuse the absence. Please use the email to continue to notify the school that your child will not attend. You may call your child’s school at any time to report an absence, as well.
