The Viking Voyager

From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to the 2024-2025 School year! The Viking Voyager is our school e-newsletter and will be sent every 2 weeks. It holds a LOT of information, but I will always start with a brief message at the top highlighting the most important updates. If you don't have time to peruse the entire newsletter, I ask you to at least read my message at the top for the cliff notes version! Anything I mention that you would like more details on can be found as you continue to scroll throughout the newsletter.
A few start of the year reminders for families:
1) Buses - Westway Coach is our bus company. They suggest there could be a 5-7 minute swing on either side of their posted stop times. Traffic can be unpredictable, but routes should become more consistent now that our first week is through. All students K-2nd grade should have a parent meet them at their stop at the end of the day. Westway's contact information is below under our standing newsletter items for your reference.
2) Snack - all students have a snack time at school, please send them with a peanut free snack that is separate from their lunch.
3) Extra clothes - we recommend all students PK-1st have an extra set of clothes at school just in case of accidents.
4) Our beginning of the year district assessment (iReady) for 1st grade will start next week, Kindergarten will be assessed at the end of September. Please see the letter below from Dr. Martelli for more information on iReady.
5)The 2024-2025 Family and Student Handbook is available in your child’s Skyward account. Each family is asked to sign the acknowledgment form in Skyward.
Lastly, I hope to see all of our families at Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 18th from 5:30-6:30pm. We will discuss "Salt Creek 101's" including: safety procedures, discipline, and academics. You will be able to meet staff and ask any questions you may have.
I am looking forward to a great year of learning ahead!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Scanlan

Lunch Balances
Overdue Breakfast/ Lunch Balances
Don't forget to check and pay any overdue lunch balances. You can check balances and pay on your parent Skyward account. You can also send cash or check payment to school with your child in a marked envelope with name and what payment is for. The office will then account for the cash or check payment on your student's Skyward.
Late Arrivals
Attention Parents - School doors open at 7:40 am. There is no staff supervision prior to this time. Classes start at 7:50 am.
Students who come in late find it harder to establish a good morning routine at school. Teachers are beginning instruction and a late student is missing out. Thank you for your assistance in making sure your students arrive to school on time!

I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
A New Way to Pay Fees in Skyward
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
