Tidbits from the classrooms of 6th grade
In Literacy News:
In Literacy, students are finishing up their Imagination Unit. They will be reading excerpts from Alice and Wonderland and “The Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carrol to help them start thinking creatively. The next step is to begin writing their own stories, so ask your students if they have any awesome story ideas yet!
In Social Studies News:
In Social Studies, we have just finished our debate on the “State of The Great Lakes.” I am very pleased that I had 100% participation in the debates this year. The students will be making their own lesson plans to determine what we will learn at the end of the year. I look forward to seeing what the students are interested in!
In Math News:
6th grade math students will be working with statistics. There are so many real world applications to data analysis and displays, like sports, businesses, and comparison shopping! Students are finding the mean, median, mode and range of a data set, as well as constructing histograms, box plots, and stem-and-leaf plots.
The Math Focus classes have been working on creating a carnival game for our 6th grade Math Carnival they are throwing later this month. The purpose of this project is to gather data and to use this to create multiple data representations on their culminating project. A huge thanks to all of the parents who have supported their students’ projects at home!
In Science News:
Students just wrapped up their Human-Environment Interaction unit with a project on all the ways we interact with our planet! We will be moving into rocket construction starting May 6th, with the goal of launching on Friday, May 17.
In the middle...catching up with 7th grade
As we come to the end of the school year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we've had in 7th grade. It has been a year filled with growth, learning, and memorable experiences for our students. Academically, our 7th graders have shown tremendous progress and growth. They dove into challenging concepts in mathematics, science, language arts, social studies, and more, demonstrating critical thinking skills and knowledge.
Through hands-on projects, engaging discussions, and collaborative activities, they have expanded their horizons and are ready for the challenges ahead of them. As educators, we are incredibly proud of each and every student in 7th grade. Their resilience, creativity, and curiosity have been inspiring, and we have no doubt that they will continue to excel in all their future endeavors.
Thank you once again for your trust in our school and for being part of our educational community.
The 7th Grade team

DLT news
The Dragon Leadership Team (DLT) has been organizing and directing all of the school assemblies, castle competitions, working hat days, and creating ideas for Spirit Week. The group also worked on projects to improve our school and community environment. Students took an audit of energy usage, lighting, and recycling within the school. Then they will be developing a plan for how to use our resources more efficiently. One group of students entered an energy contest sponsored by Resource Central. TMS finished in second place (by 10 points) but was able to figure out how to save $309 in energy savings in one week of concentrated efforts. A huge thank you to the staff, especially the custodial staff who made it a success. Students who worked on this project were: David Brindle, Levi Chingren, Sophia DesEnfants, Reign Mathis, Cory Riddle, Brooklyn Schoenauer, Makayla Ward, and Harper Wiesen.
DLT students also informed the staff and students about what can be recycled (paper & bottles mostly) and what cannot (anything that held food) in our single stream recycling at TMS. They did an audit of the recycle bins and created a plan to increase usable recycling. They organized the Earth Day celebration and worked on preparations for the Trashion Show. Students who worked on these projects were: Elena Armendariz, Lilly Everson, Kaitlyn Guzman, Addison Jones, Laila Nichols, and Cassi Vinaske.
Another group of students organized a 3 on 3 basketball tournament to purchase a concrete trash can to be put outside. Unfortunately, the tournament had to be canceled due to lack of teams. Students who worked on this project were: Bella Davis, Tavish Fisher, Trenton Rodriguez, and Kate Trainor.
GT news
Congratulations to Kate Trainor who had a poem selected to be included in the Young Writers Competition. There are still two writing contests accepting submissions until mid-May. Students should see their language arts teachers or Mrs. Leonard for more information.
The photography workshop posters are nearing completion and will be on display at the end of the year and at Back to School Night in August.
What's the HOT topic in PRO class?
Here are some of the focus topics in our PRO for May:
6th grade: Becoming a Better Friend; Resolving Conflict with friends; Helping Others Resolve Conflict: Saying “I’m Sorry”; Remembering this year; and Final Reflections
7th grade: Reflecting on conflict; Growth mindset; Real Life Respect; and Final Reflections.
8th grade: Grit and Willpower; Understanding Selflessness; Connection Your Future and This year (planning ahead); and Final Reflections.
Counseling News
As we wrap up the school year, there are many things we are grateful for this school year. Our students have grown holistically in many areas. The counseling department has conducted classroom lessons, small groups, and has worked individually with students.
In PRO classes, since spring break, teachers have helped us instruct lessons on communication, teamwork, and perspective taking. They also helped us with our Spread the Word campaign to help be more inclusive of students with all abilities. The final lessons for PRO classes will include topics like grit, willpower, conflict resolution, motivation, and the growth mindset.
Our 8th grade groups are finishing up right now. The 3 topics we covered are stress & anxiety management; goal setting & motivation; and high school anxiety. We served 27 students in 8th grade with these groups.
Individually, the counselors have supported over 250 students this school year. When meeting with counselors, students have processed problems and built skills. They’ve helped students recognize their strengths and have helped them to develop academic skills, social skills, emotion regulation skills, and supported mental health needs.
Our WEB leaders are headed to the elementary schools on April 30 and May 2 to visit with the 5th grade students and help them prepare for the transition to middle school. The Sources of Strength peer leaders did another sticky note campaign to provide test-taking strategies and words of encouragement to students during CMAS testing. Inclusion Club is focusing on Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month for May and will be attending an AAPI cultural festival at the Loveland Library on May 18.
Raffling prizes for being a PRO
During April students were able to earn raffle tickets as part of our PBIS incentives. Students who were on time to class, had a charged chromebook, and demonstrated perseverance were given raffle tickets. Students could then decide which prizes they wanted to try and win.
We had a mixture of really cool prizes to earn: snacks, drinks, Stanley water bottles, Lego kits, Drawing kits, Sketch Pads, and mini bluetooth speakers. We had LOTS of raffle tickets earned- we were so proud of all students who strived to meet the expectations.
5th grade Transition Night
On the evening of Thursday, May 2 we will welcome our incoming 5th graders. This is a time for students and parents to walk around TMS, meet the staff, and receive general information for their future middle schooler.
Celebrating our 8th graders
Thursday, May 23
Award Ceremony: 6:00 pm- 6:45 pm
8th grade dance: 7:00 pm -8:15 pm
Parents you are invited to look at the decorations for the dance and snap a couple of photos. We ask that you kindly leave quickly, unless you are chaperoning, so 8th graders can enjoy their last middle school dance.

Unified Basketball comes to TMS!
TMS watched and cheered on the unified basketball team playing a game during the Earth Day assembly. Thirteen students played in the game. Modifications are made for the unified athletes. A hula hoop is hung from the basket for athletes who need to shoot at a lower goal, and a clothes basket was used for those who had difficulty raising the ball above their heads. Rather than running up and down the court, trying to steal the ball from the opponents, support players move at the speed of the unified athletes. They encouraged everyone to shoot.
