A Message From our Principal, Dr. Justin Bogart
Pirate Families,
We celebrate our teachers this week in recognition of National Teacher Appreciation week. Our teachers and support staff justly deserve a week of celebration, and I wanted to share a few reasons why I appreciate our teachers.
They are visible in our hallways during passing periods – building strong relationships and trust with students starts by teachers being outside their classrooms and greeting students as they enter.
They collaborate to create a positive culture and to support our academic vision – all of our teachers play a significant role in driving a positive culture of learning and a positive school experience for students. Our teachers understand that we drive school improvement through collaboration with each other, our students, and our community.
They care – our teachers care deeply about their students and their colleagues. We can speak that we work as a family at PHS, but our teachers provide evidence every day that our Piper family is based not on words, but on our actions as a result of what we believe is best for students.
Thank you, Piper teachers!

PLEASE READ:
During our Student-Led Conferences in February, every family was to review their student's Google Slides, which provided an overview of their state-mandated Individual Plan of Study. After review, parents/guardians were to verify they had reviewed by completing a form in PathwayOS. It is a distinct goal that we have 100% parent/guardian confirmation of student Individual Plans of Study.
SENIOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS: For students to pick-up their Cap and Gown after their Senior Capstone presentations, this IPS Confirmation MUST BE COMPLETED. It is part of their end-of-the year checklist.
There are a couple of ways for families to sign off and confirm their IPS in PathwayOS.
First Option (and preferred):
Have your student open their student-led conference slides. All students created these with their homeroom teacher. Review the slides with your student and when you get to the slide that has the IPS confirmation link, click on it and sign together. Participating in this option provides you the opportunity to have open dialogue with your student about their future Academy at Piper HIgh School and their career aspirations.
Second Option
After discussing the content of the slides, use the link below to confirm that you have communicated with your student about their Individual Plan of Study.
KC Crimestoppers
This is a program that has been used throughout the metro and has proven to be an effective way for students, parents, and the community to offer tips to law enforcement about concerns they may have.
Essentially, individuals can download the P3 app, select their district, and submit tips for issues they wish to report. They can also upload pictures or video if appropriate. These tips will be shared with law enforcement, and if any items pertain to the school district, information will be shared with appropriate people in the building.

Jayhawk Doc 105 is a 30-minute Zoom session, hosted by a current medical student from your area, that will:
- highlight their personal path to medical school, including why they chose the KU School of Medicine;
- provide guidance to future medical school applicants; and
- highlight premedical and early assurance programs available.
Advanced registration is required. See attached flyer.

Female students interested in areas of engineering, robotics, advanced industrial arts, and/or welding (or any metal working trade) are invited to experience a half-day immersive manufacturing experience on Friday, April 17, 2025. The day's events will be held at two different locations in the Desoto and Lenexa, KS areas. The day will commence at Huhtamaki at 9 am. There, students will:
- Participate in a leadership seminar lead by Lisa Thimmesch, LASTingcoach and Consulting
- Tour Huhtamaki and focus on different career opportunities within the engineering, machining, and manufacturing departments
- Engage with industry front runners during a Q&A panel focused on overcoming challenges and developing a mindset for success
- Participate in discussion about the transportation of finished goods and large freight, as well as conceptualize how a business can be developed (IE trucking) by analyzing need and providing a solution.
At the conclusion of the Huhtamaki visit (approximately 12:15 pm), students and She Leads. Mentors will travel to C&R Manufacturing. There, field trip participants will enjoy lunch and a short presentation by C&R President Andrea Wosel and the She Leads. Executive Team. Following the afternoon meal, group members will tour the C&R facility. The day’s activities will conclude at 1:30 pm.
