May is Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on the importance of mental health and to celebrate the progress made in this field. It's a month where we can all take action to foster our own mental well-being and support others. Celebrating can mean many things: from educating ourselves and spreading awareness about mental health issues, to engaging in activities that promote our own mental health like mindfulness or yoga. It's also a great time to check in on friends and family, or even volunteer with organizations that support mental health causes. Let's use this month to break the stigma and encourage open conversations about mental health!
If you need additional support or strategies, please reach out to Director of Student and Family Support Mr. Jay Nimene at jnimene@oberlinschools.net.

Progress continues to be made on the facility plans for the Oberlin City School District. On April 9, 2024 there was a work session with the Oberlin City School District Board of Education to review the recommendation for a new 6–8 school adjacent to the current Oberlin High School. This option requires now new effective mileage and would be funded out of a combination of funds in hand, and revenue from the current bond issue which would be extended. Once this school is complete, Langston Middle School students would move to this new 6–8 school. The current Langston Middle School site would then be repurposed.
Thendesign Architecture and Hammond Construction spoke about each of the options and recommended building a 6-8 middle school. The entire meeting can be viewed on the District's YouTube Channel.
In future phases, a new high school could be built and connected to the new school.
Currently, constructing a new 6–12 school, as a single phase, is beyond the bonding capacity of the District, but building in phases presents a cost effective and efficient solution that satisfies facility needs moving forward.
