NOHL CANYON ROADRUNNER NEWS
OCTOBER 22ND-OCTOBER 28TH: WEEKLY PUBLICATION
Message from Principal Strickland
We have an exciting week ahead! This week is Red Ribbon week. Students are encouraged to dress up by the theme for the day to support our nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth.
In addition to this, teachers will be recognizing one student from their class for Student of the Month based on the John Wooden character trait of Friendship.
Thursday, will bring a BMX Assembly and Friday is the much anticipated Jog-a-Thon.
As Halloween is just around the corner, Nohl Canyon will maintain our no costume Halloween for Grades 1-6. Students in these grades may wear Halloween colors for the day: Orange, Purple, Black. For our TK and Kinder students, costumes will be allowed (no masks or weapons please).
It should be an exciting week.

NCSA Sponsored Message from Batman Regarding Jog-a-thon
Jog-a-thon Volunteer helpers needed and Permission slip update
Thank you to all students who have turned in their OUSD Permission slip to participate in Jog-a-thon. For those still needing to submit their permission slip, we have received new guidance from our district office folks. As this event will occur during the regular school day, permission slips will not be required for students to participate.
Families that have yet to turn in permission slips will no longer be required to do so. Of course, students wishing not to jog will be allowed an alternative activity. We thank all of our families for their efforts to make Jog-a-thon a great success.

Student of the Month Recognition - October Focus - Friendship
FRIENDSHIP - “To make friends, be a friend.”
To make a friend you must be a friend. Friends are your family, teammates, classmates and workmates. They help you succeed and achieve your goals. Friendship is mutual. It is not a one way street. Good friends do good things for each other.
At the end of each month, students will be nominated by their teachers and receive principal recognition for their dedicated efforts.
LCAP Survey for Parents and Students
We encourage all students and families to complete this survey as your input is valuable at ensuring that we are meeting the needs of our community.

Parking Lot Procedures
Thank you for making our parking lot procedures during drop-off and pick-up a safe and efficient machine. We serve a large number of vehicles in short period of time.
Thank you for your continued help with a few critical items:
- Please remember our Lower lot is Staff Only Parking. The lower entrance on Nohl Canyon RD is ENTRANCE ONLY in the Afternoon for Middle Lane traffic going to park in the FAR lot. Two-way use of this entrance presents a significant hazard to entering cars and pedestrian traffic.
- Please be kind to our parking lot volunteers. They make the whole thing work.
- Please ask your kiddos to walk when in front of school. Running children in the pick up area presents several hazards. Safety is our first priority.
- Trinity School Parking Lot is CLOSED for drop-off and pick-up parking.
- Parents, with respect to Trinity Pre-School and their families, we are not allowing Nohl Canyon families to park in the Trinity parking lot. Please follow this guideline and support us in keeping a positive community relationship with Trinity School. Trinity will often allow us to use their lot for special events but should not be used for drop-off or pick-up.
- Please remain clear of the Trinity lawn areas. Trinity lawns should not be used for student waiting for drop-off or pick-up. Students should always be picked up from our school site. If students are still here after 2:40pm, we bring them behind our school gates into our QUAD area for safety until parent pick-up. Please do not have your students wait at the Trinity site for pick-up.
- Please be sure to use crosswalks when crossing all major roads. Students being dropped off on Nohl Canyon Rd. and then proceeding across the street, presents a significant hazard to those students.
- Keep in mind, the Nohl Canyon Rd. entrance to our parking area is only to be used during afternoon pick-up and is limited to Middle Lane traffic that is pulling all the way through the lot to park in the back school lot.
